Implementation of a TM-271 with a USB programming cable is the real essence of your swanky implementation..  Please share this, should you have it available.  I might be inclined to use a dual band TM-V71A, as I have a new one sitting unused.  I suspect they will interface similarly, save for some of the dual band features.
