[App_rpt-users] Upgrade from Dial to ASL distro.

Well at this point I am thinking that my allstar files that work flawlessly under the DIAL distro is not liked by the version of Asterisk (which I am assuming is a newer version) under the ASL distro.

When I install the ASL distro and use asl-menu to reset my node up, I do show up on the stats page and I have intermittent DTMF functions meaning that the machine will response to the forced id status command and that’s about it and that’s intermittent.  It will not connect to any node. I didn’t try all of course but I tried many.

When I move my files from my DIAL distro, nothing works except for the repeater function.

All audio levels are in spec and all file permissions are a the same as the newer version file permissions.

I put my DIAL distro HD back into the machine and all is well.

Umma keep that one running until I really need to upgrade because there are no other options.

There is not much to change when there is one node on your server. I learn something every time I go through the process as the comments generally get updated with each new release. Also there is a chance something will have to be different with a new release, so the safe bet is modify the existing config and read the comments:

 - Copy the provided config directory: /etc/asterisk to something like /etc/asterisk.orig or .bak

 - Grep (or search rpt.conf, extensions.conf and iax.conf) for node 1999 and change that to your node number.

 - In iax.conf, in addition to changing to your node number, uncomment the register line and change it to your node's password. 

 - Also in iax.conf remember to add the port if you use something other than 4569 (your server's port on allstarlink.org <http://allstarlink.org>  must match iax.conf). 

 - In rpt.conf change rxchannel= to your channel driver.

 - Do the setup procedure for your channel driver or copy over the file (ex: simpleusb.conf)

Having said that, doesn't ASL 1.01 have a script to help with this, 'nodesetup' or something like that? Seems like there was even a menu item for this.

Check permissions and any special folders you may have created for scripts you are calling along with those files.

I am just checking with you in a step by step. I had a strange incidence but I doubt this is the same as mine so rather than run you on some wild theory... one step at a time.

Yes, I did copy my files over to the new debian from acid. It does work.

Did you import "ALL' of your old *.conf files, or just some ?

1st.  What’s the advantage (differences) to moving to the ASL distro that’s posted compared to the DIAL distro?

2nd. Is there an upgrade path from the 1 to the other?

3rd. I do have a hard drive where I installed the ASL version and called myself importing my settings.

My node is working well as a standard repeater but I am not registering with the ALLSTAR network and the node is not responding to ANY DTMF commands, including status, id, or any other local commands.

It transmits periodically like its id’ing but no sound.  My audio is setup because ive used the echo function and that’s working properly and audio, deviation and all of the cool repeater settings are clean

Where do I need to start looking for these couple of issues?

I am back online now because I put the DIAL release hard drive back in just to be accessible for the time being.
