[App_rpt-users] Connecting to other Nodes

Hello All;
I’m having an issue configuring my mode. I’m using a Motorola Maxtrac radio with an USB-RIM 16 pin adapter connected to a raspberry pi with the ASL_1.01-20180228-armhf-raspbian-stretch-image.
I have configured my setting into the software. I have tried to connect to other nodes but I’m unable to connect. Other nodes are able to connect to my node. When I do *70 on my node…it says “Node 47667 REPEAT ONLY”. Is this normal? Do I need to change something in my setup?
The 16 pin connector on the Maxtrac is configure with pin 8 and 12 to PL/DPL CSQ Low. Does this need to be changed?
Any help to help me change the configuration where I can connect to another node would be appreciated.

Hello,
I'm trying to configure my node. It connect to AllStar and I can have other nodes connect to my node. I'm unable to connect to any nodes. When I do *70, it gives the node number and then says "REPEAT ONLY". I'm using a Motorola Maxtrac radio connected to a raspberry pi.
Do I have something configured wrong?

Hey all,
Long time user, short time list subscriber.
We over at VE3LSR has had a visualized DIAL for a while now. We've spent a fair amount of time getting as many things virtualized and/or inside docker containers where ever possible (You can find our published things on github and docker hub under the call sign).
It started as a Debian install on ESXi with compiling dial on the box.
We found that ESXi had some issues with the USB passthru required. It also didn't support some of the addon cards we were trying to use.
We since moved it to a base Debian install, then adding the pre-built package repositories on top of Proxmox VM system. This left a bug we were chasing since we started down this rabbit hole. Turns out, the system is CPU sensitive. Meaning even though you don't have a lot of CPU usage, it's possible to have massive jitter if more then one process is trying to use a core at the same time. It's best to either limit the number of VMs on the box, or set some kind of CPU affinity to ensure the Debian Box always has access to a core. We've had no evidence of jitter since moving most of our other virtual machines onto a second box. Work investigation and tweaking is being done.

Thanks for the info. We do want to do some testing of AllStarLink Asterisk in a Docker env. Just to let you know a few things. We have retired DIAL. AllStarLink Asterisk v1.01 is built on Debian Stretch.
There have been a number if enhancements and bug files applied. The install is via apt-get install rather then building from source. (Source will always be available at <https://github.com/AllStarLink/Asterisk>)
This allows us to push out enhancements and upgrades quicker since it is now a simple apt-get upgrade. The Main page <allstarlink.org> and the wiki contain links to the i386/AMD installer. <allstarlink.org> and <wiki.allstarlink.org>

Yeah, I started with the Dial build stack, then moved to the AllStarLink Asterisk (ASL*?) repositories once I found how to add the repos to base Debian. This is what's running on our repeater site now and works super well.
As for docker, I can (and probably will) build Dockerfiles for the built out - it's simple enough. Where the problem comes in (which I realized much after our initial conversation about the idea months ago) is ensuring the DAHDI kernel driver is installed on the host for the correct kernel version.
I'll probably start playing with this in the coming weeks.

On the Acer Aspire One I installed on I added the wlan adapter to the interfaces file:

wpa-ssid myssid
wpa-key-mgmt WPA-PSK
wpa-group TKIP CCMP
wpa-psk mypasskey
After doing this I ran across the script in the asl-menu for setting up wireless and ran it - it looked like it added info to the wpa.supplicant (I verified it's all info was correct).
Ok, so here is the issue - the wlan connects and gets proper addresses and dns - I can ping anything and get responses, I can ssh to other systems on my network, there seems to be no problem with bi-directional communications *if* originated from the system. The same cannot be said for incoming - no ping response, no ssh, apparently nothing connects when coming in.
I don't think it's an issue with the adapter or driver, also it was working (after manually adding to interfaces) on the previous image. I am not sure where to start but hoping someone can help direct my focus and efforts.

That sounds like a firewall issue.
Did you forward port 4569 to the up of your node?

Please don't hesitate to bring up issues as you find them. The menu system is new. Nate, N8THN did one heck of a job with them. I'm sure there will be bugs and we will squash them throughout the system. That is one of the reasons we moved to a apt-get install method, to all faster bug fixes and easier for users it apply.

Stacey,
I have a similar problem on my LAN with a Technicolor CableModem.
Internet connectivity works fine, but I can't always ping or SSH into other LAN WiFi devices.
I ended up writing a cron script to reset WiFi if connectivity goes away.
Never had this LAN issue with other WiFi modem/routers.
