[FRC] FYI... Florida Repeater Council Information

Hi Frank :)

I have no skin in this game anymore ( I had a repeater on the air, took forever to coordination, never was notified my “coordination expired”, I have since moved and sold off the repeater )… however still have a nice NEW set of Bird Rx/Tx UHF Cans.

If the FRC wants to serve and help the hams, stop being stuck in the 80’s make your database more user friendly, if Dana dies your all screwed.

Its super simple to make a web based system that a user can enter their coordinate, height, antenna gain, rf output @ antenna, have the system check for an empty pair, then be put in pending until its on the air and the coordinator for the region can verify operation, once done, he can approve the coordination… it should take nor more then 5 days … the system should also send out an email in 10 and 11 months and remind them to mark its still on the air.

The district coordinator should also be activity checking to make sure all repeater pairs in his region are active, that is his JOB as coordinator.

As for Hams getting special treatment, or “it’s a good ole boys club” is possible, it happens in every corporation that has no oversite.

As for how these email addresses were obtained? Most likely a member of the FRC gave it to Bryan, so before everyone throws stones at him, I think you should be throwing stones at those in the FRC that don’t want this list to be in existence.

I welcome this list, we should have a “Florida Repeater Owners” email list that we call can use to talk to each other and help each other out, because we sure as hell don’t get help from the FRC when we need it.

Frank Echanique, you are a liar in big terms. Bring up one person that paid me for a freq. pair. Never in my life I did that. Dont press your luck! W4HN

I tried years ago and gave up… The FRC completely killed any interest I had in ham radio repeaters… before you had to buy your repeater pairs from the district coordinator and after he was removed our district was dissolved and given to district 2, which is where most of our problems came from…

At this point I have no idea if my repeaters are even coordinated anymore and honestly I don't care, they are on a government building sponsored by the Miami Dade Office of Emergency Management, and the only reason I maintain them is because they (MD-OEM) have asked me to.. if it ever became a problem I would just turn them off… then Miami would have exactly zero wide-area VHF repeaters and district 2 would finally win

Frank,

Might give more details of your experience with the FRC. I think if any problems one has with FRC is voiced to the repeater community and the FRC, it will be addressed.

people have had good interactions with the FRC? I can assure you that wasn't my experience…

I don't think I have ever dealt with a more dysfunctional organization

And the fact Bryan owns/hosts lists.keekles.org <http://lists.keekles.org> (the server responsible for this newly created list)

I suggest that you contact his registrar/hosting providers abuse system to form a complaint.

And as many of us have spoken up about our past successful interactions and the fact Bryan decided to leave them out on this thread, I've decided to copy the 'accused' on this email.

He has clearly stated his request for our personal information was with held by the FRC, and that he proceeded to seek alternative means of acquiring our information in an effort to contact us.

Hi Ron and John,

I have dealt with Dana on three repeaters, mine and two that the county turned over to me as ARES EC for the county and as a volunteer himself he has done a good job. And I agree with both of you.

Have a good week and keep your feet dry.

John,

Yes, I think you are correct. Just seems I was not getting replies from others. have been getting today.

It is good to have these discussions and the FRC does need guidance from us into repeaters. Just seems one guy has a beef and wants to take over and he has little to do with repeaters really. More of a club board member. And being into the internet service or an IT guy is very little tech knowledge of this subject. Engineering firms do not consider IT guys technical people. But they have a valuable place.

I think the FRC does a good job, but they are often slow. Our District 4 director has responded to me quickly in last year when i need assistance in getting a pair for a repeater. not sure what other directors do. Dana is very slow, I think he picks one Saturday in the month and works on what he has received, hi. But he is very knowledgeable about the issues...has lots of experience over the last 20 years dealing with the issues.

Good morning Ron,

Is it possible that you're capturing all of the email messages from the FRC list server? It appears that you've somehow arrived at the decision that all are not allowed to communicate in this venue. Here are the archives: http://lists.keekles.org/pipermail/frc-info/

I posted a message to the group yesterday, and while it appeared to all on the list almost immediately, I personally didn't see it arrive in my own mailbox for quite some time. I see this happen quite frequently on the Tower-Talk list server.
