Why not work from a SD image Quick and easy. http://dvswitch.org/files/ASL_Images/Raspberry_Pi/Stretch/ Get the image to sd card, https://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/ run first boot as per the readme Run the following commands after the first time you boot. sudo apt-mark hold raspberrypi-kernel-headers raspberrypi-kernel sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade -y sudo reboot at the # prompt run "asl-menu" to setup your node. done ! When you have a working ASL Pi, Pull your SD card and create a back-up image from the SD ! 'For now' this is the preferred method.
