I've actually spoken with Travis, KJ4NDP, a few times via his linked interconnect; I was surprised how good it sounded, since there are differences in the AMBE vocoder used in D-STAR and DMR. Do your search but the folks doing it normally refer to it as DMR (aka).
Someone has created a DMR driver for use in app_rpt using a dstar channel driver.
I think that info will lead you in the right direction.
