Yes I have a node number but what options do I pick to use this specific headset as a channel?
This is not well covered in the getting started guide. The guide also seems to only address using usb not older, more robust hardware but what the guide covers is a Separate topic.

Hello Eric,
Do you have a node number? If not, you'll need to register for one. Once you have a node number. Login to your Raspberry Pi.
You'll need to run asl-menu as root
repeater@ ----:~ $ sudo asl-menu
Just follow along.

The mpow pa071a headset I have is specifically claimed by another post to this list to use the cmedia chipset and one of the buttons (I forget which) is supposed to work as ptt. Now how can I set this up to connect to allstar?

The effort required would depend on the usb audio chipset in the headset and if any gpio was wired.
It's much less effort to accomplish what you're trying to do using the DV Switch Android app.
Could use the same headset with a usb on the go adapter or a Bluetooth headset. This is a proven approach.
