I usually just set a static DHCP lease in my router for the mac address of that pi. That way I am not trying to mess around with setting a static IP on the pi itself. From what I remember, there was a specific way to do it in stretch, but I never got it to work and that's when I started using static DHCP leases on the router. If some can send me an example config file and location? I assume it goes to /etc/network/interfaces.d? I just don’t know the format and what the file name should be.
