Funny that, I have an ODROID-X... I was asking about the hardware issues surrounding the Pis USB interface, as I know it has only one "on-chip" USB port, which is fanned out to the two USB host and the ethernet. A friend tried a digital DVB tuner, and a 54g wifi interface, as well as MCE remote, keyboard, mouse, etc - disaster. The issues he had, and the issues Ramesh is having sound all too similar for my liking. Sure, the TV would work fine for a few seconds, then when the wifi accessed, big problem. As a point of interest Ramesh, what other devices do you have hooked up to the USB chain on your Pi? Include hubs as well if you can. Yeh, I figured you were busy with real / revenue generating work.
I played around with all of the buffer parameters and queue size in chan_simpleusb and could not get rid of that cyclical raspiness on the Raspberry!
When it works - it works well, every few seconds the audio gets raspy and then clears up.
I've also been busy with work and now the holiday parties have started to kick in! - that's paRties - not paNties :)

Or maybe, the OSS compatibility layer in that version of the kernel is sufficiently broken to not be able to work properly in the environment at all?? Maybe native alsa is necessary here. Perhaps someone might want to 'splice' the native alsa 'way' of 'talking' to the sound hardware from something like chan_beagle into chan_simpleusb to see if this is the case. Definitely not a trivial proposition.

Currently, Ramesh has a version of the 'stuff' that is working -- sorta. There is still some issue with audio buffering (with the SWINE USB), and we (or at least I) havent had time to look at it in the past few days. It will happen, just give it time. Also, there is some random poopy about the crypto libraries under that distro, which *may* require using Asterisk version 1.6 instead of the "normal" distro, and that could get at least somewhat ugly.
Anyway, more to come.
