If using IaxRpt control panel can anyone explain how to dial DTMF digits A,B,C,D? I don't mean the propagation issue. I mean the keypad is only a 12 button keypad not a 16 key. Anyone know a way to add the other 4 buttons (A,B,C,D) or send their tones as if they are being dialed from the keypad? Larry - N7FM
I may be missing something, but it seems to me VoIP uses a 12 button keypad, not 16. Radios use 16, but they are not VoIP. What is it you are trying to do with the extra keys? the a, b, c, and d keys were used by the now defunct military autovon system. and were used for call priority levels. But the still remain as part of the bell system dtmf standard. google search autovon system. ken n1dot On 8/13/2014 11:26 PM, Bob wrote:

Thanks to all who replied. Good comment about VOIP even though not to my liking. Since IaxRpt is capable of passing DTMF to Node Radios as well as other telephone equipment I was curious as to why exclude the other 4 buttons? And did anyone have an easy fix to add them rather than creating Macros to send the other 4 DTMF sequences. Current mode is like building a convertible and not including a top. Makes it strictly a fair weather unit and prevents it's use as a rain or snow vehicle. Larry - N7FM On 08/13/2014 04:26 PM, Bob wrote:

I don't know if this is related to above, but I use the cop 48 command to have my node automaticaly dial DTMF. It is fairly slow dialing though, and could speed up a bit. Other than recording a wav file, converting it to GSM, and playing that, is there a way to speed up the DTMF? 73 Skyler On Wed, Aug 13, 2014 at 8:17 PM, larry <larry@n7fm.com> wrote:

The issue is *why* is it so danged important to have the A-D keys decoded? security through obscurity? Because they are there on ham mics? No one has really described a use case for why this artifact of the whole dtmf protocol is really needed. especially when, with the asterisk system, there is almost an unlimited functionality with using just the 10 digits bracketed by the star and octothorpe. -- Bryan Sent from my iPhone 5...No electrons were harmed in the sending of this message.
