i don't get why people would want to pass DTMF over the output of the repeater. besides being anoying, it exposes your control sequence to disclosure (record, playback) and is generally considered obnoxious. here's an idea: buy a receiver board from hamtronics or bash an old mobile to get discriminator out to a URI, split the receive antenna line at the site, set up a receive node on some oddball non-interfering frequency, and code what you want into scripts and/or commands in rpt.conf. set your mobile/ht to same oddball frequency, and pound away on the keypad to your heart's content without blowing the speakers out of the radios that may be tuned to your repeater output and turning folks off to using said mschine. it's called 'out-of-band' control. -- Bryan Sent from my iPhone 5...small keyboard, big fingers...please forgive misspellings...

Yes, Buddy you have it right. Let’s break it down:
* is the prefix, AKA the function (or start) character. http://ohnosec.org/drupal/node/133
4 is command mode (you exit with #). http://ohnosec.org/drupal/node/21
0 is a shortcut for last node number
So for propagate_dtmf to work you have to connect to the remote node and then go into command mode.

Bryan, Sorry you feel that passing tone over rf is anoying to you. Some of us who have equipment that uses touch tone to control an HF radio requires this function. If you have to worry about disclosure of codes, well, that's another can of worms I dont want to open. I knew the idea would not appeal to everyone, and a few would find ways to put down the idea, but I guess that is what ham radio is about. passing DTMF over radio repeaters' transmitters is what's anoying, not only to me, but to some number of x listeners who may also be listening on frequency, have scanners tuned to the output, HTs in their offices on but at a lower volume, sitting on their nightstands, etc. That's just one reason, i'm thinking, that DTMF is muted. Our frequencies are open to all, we don't know who's listening, and all that implies. So, along with that, keeping control codes somewhat masked (because the number of lids hasn't decreased) IS something that should be taken into accout. however specious that argument is (yeah, i know, listen on the input...). Out of band signaling, if you have no other way to pass control sequences inband via the *4xxx# capabilities of asterisk machines linked over an IP network, can get you what you need; just needs a little 'out of the box' thinking. For instance, i have a 900 machine linked to my core system via a 70 cm link. DTMF doesn't propagate, since Asterisk THINKS the node is co-located with the compiter. i have asterisk running at the remote site, btw. i just use the core-to-remote frequency to control the far instance by writing scripts that do what i want, assigning them to a DTMF frequency, and so forth. In-band? yes. muted? yes. full control? yes. blaring DTMF through a flamethrowing 900 box with 75-mile diameter range in the NY/Philly corridor? no. Being considerate and a good neighbor, even in ham radio, goes a long way. -- Bryan Sent from my iPhone 5...small keyboard, big fingers...please forgive misspellings...

passing DTMF over radio repeaters' transmitters is what's anoying, not only to me, but to some number of x listeners who may also be listening on frequency, have scanners tuned to the output, HTs in their offices on but at a lower volume, sitting on their nightstands, etc.
In-band? yes. muted? yes. full control? yes. blaring DTMF through a flamethrowing 900 box with 75-mile diameter range in the NY/Philly corridor? no.

What it boils down to, Bryan, is the control operators preference. It's -his- system, and through the graciousness of his heart, has opened it to whoever pleases to operate there. Let me say, again, it's -HIS- system, and HE can do with it AS HE PLEASES! If the general user finds it disgusting enough to be bothered by it, then, by golly, the Radio has a knob marked VFO ... It would still be nice if it was an option. For example… Say the allstar node was a hub and I had a couple of rf links from other repeaters to the hub. I would want the hub to pass the DTMF so the other repeaters could hear it. I ask for it years ago and was told it wouldn’t happen.

I agree with you Corey. It would be very useful to me as well. The more flexible hardware and software is, the more useful it is for a wider range of unique circumstances. Plus buying extra receiver boards and more URI's just to get some DTMF control for a few things I do is a waste of my time and money. Chris KB2FAF On 02/20/2014 05:24 PM, Corey Dean wrote:

Corey, It is not that big of a deal. I just hope that if Jim position does not change ( which I undestand ), I hope he would consider adding additional support for more radios. That would solve the problem. Jim, is it possible to add the TS-2000 for remote base list of radios?? HF remote bases are a great way to promote the hobby when it comes to upgrading. Thanks Mike. I will keep this in mind. ----- Original Message ----- From: mike@midnighteng.com To: app_rpt-users@ohnosec.org Sent: Thursday, February 20, 2014 10:32 AM Subject: Re: [App_rpt-users] Touch Tones Tim and Angelo, Can you make some macros and use ilink commands 200-215 to generate dtmf strings ? Could give you limited functionality. ??? It has been a bit of a standard with other controllers that to pass dtmf through, you just needed to start with a "#" and later digits would pass. Any chance we could have that functionality? ...mike/kb8jnm -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [App_rpt-users] Touch Tones From: Angelo Glorioso <n5uxt@hotmail.com> Date: Thu, February 20, 2014 11:09 am To: "Tim Sawyer" <tim.sawyer@mac.com> Cc: app_rpt mailing list <app_rpt-users@ohnosec.org> Yes I have. It does not support the radio I want to use. Well, If I wanted to control another remote base (HF) outside of asterisk, it would require that tones be passed over there air. Command line would not work.

Understood. How about having a command or two that would send the TTs you want? http://ohnosec.org/drupal/node/94

Hi Tim,
Thanks all for the replies. I was trying to pass the tones via RF. Not to the next node per say.

Wouldn’t it have to be *4[node number] to guarantee that you’re commanding the right node? *4 is the command to send commands to a remote node, thus *40 would specify to control the most recently connected node, is that not correct? Or did I get the wrong end of this?
