I used IRLP back in the day, but when I started to get flak from one of his cronies, and I was actually called a lid at one point, that's when I realized that it was time to move on and make a change towards a real open source platform which is much more advanced and has great people willing to help out.. I am very turned off of IRLP by the overall attitude of the "team" that seems against the spirit of Amateur Radio in my opinion. You contrast that with Allstar that is opensourced and based on a well know and supported OSS PBX software with good (positive) community support and participation, that's enough for me to be very happy. Ive been an IRLP owner for 5 years, and manage several nodes in Kansas. I recently put up my first Allstar node and joined this list 3 days ago. So far it's nothing but pissing and moaning about IRLP. Seems like quite an inferiority complex going on with this group. If Allstar is so great, and IRLP sucks so bad, why pay any attention to it? You are not alone! I had numbers 310 and 320 WAY back when. Then we started running IRLP on the same platform and Dave Cameron went NUTS! Remember the threat to yank our PGP keys? Well that was all i needed to hear. I told Cameron to shove my 2 node numbers up his ass (keys included) and never looked back. Nodes 2155-2159 were born. IRLP is like cruising in a old "Escort"...running on 3 cylinders, a AM radio that gets 2 stations, no AC, manual windows and a big spring that pokes you in the ass.Does it run? well yeah kinda. Dave Cameron was PISSED! Allstar was cutting in on his ability to sell a SSI-202 chip and a small "peek & Poke" board for $170..and you get a node number tossed in for free...
