This is what I am trying to say: There are several cases when I don't want to use DSP and use COR. (Weather we are using flat or speaker is not relevant) On the raspberry pi, it is easy to use the wiring pi program and a modification of K0KN's astled script for PTT. However, I have no idea how I would wright a script to tell Allstar that there is a COR detection when the GPIO input on the pi has gone high. If anybody knows more about it, could they help with a script? The bash command "gpio read <PIN number> " will return a value 1 or 0. How do I pipe this to Allstar COR? Hear, hear. no dog in this hunt, but I've not found an interface which was as flexible and easy to use, and i have a shack full of dmk uri dongles. everything from a boafeng 888 through alinco dr transcievers in simplex and as a repreater, a repeaterbuilder micor conversion, gm300s, an msf5000, hooked to both acid and dial on pi computers, and with a speaker on one of the outputs to boot. 45 bucks with the chips presoldered, it has the right chip, not some potted knock-off, a memory chip, iirc, kevin brought out a few gpio pins, spend a few couple hours stuffing a board, and you are supporting a fellow ham. is 45 bucks REALLY going to break the bank for something that, if you can read a schematic and understand a parts list??? no financial interest other than a satisfied customer. -- Bryan Sent from my iPhone 6S...No electrons were harmed in the sending of this message.

What about VOX control for PTT? See page 67 in June 2016 QST. But it still uses an ext. Hi Bob, VOX can be done to generate the RX COS signal, but, it isn't ideal at all--I've tried it. The list of reasons is long, below is a quick from my experience. The circuit in QST is designed to provide PTT from a computer-generated digital signal, and it should work well for that. Remember that when the radio should be transmitting, MODEM audio from the computer is continuous and roughly constant in peak level. Once the computer MODEM transmission is complete, the output level drops to virtually zero, with very little audio noise of any kind from the computer. This scenario is ideal for VOX--a single, predictable keying threshold set-point and a very short no-signal cut off delay. Audio from an FM receiver is different. It has many complications for trying to use VOX to generate COS. First, you'll need a more complex circuit that implements both an adjustable unkey delay (remember: human voice isn't constant) and input level set-point, which may be complicated to adjust due to various noises coming from the RX. So, at best, you'll likely end up with a customized solution that works only with a signal FM radio without tweaking all the settings again and again. Then, another issue is that you may loose the first syllable of audio at key-up, while the VOX activates. As I said, VOX can be done for casual use.
