[App_rpt] Simplex node with just RXAud/TXAud/PTT ?

Hi Steve,
I can tell you that there is a way to hook up an HT. However, you must keep
in mind, the Link would have to operate Half duplex... and because of that
the Autopatch capability would suffer.... I would suggest crossbanding to
gain Full duplex control therefore the DTMF Functions would be able to
operate and be received even while the transmitter is Xmiting! Some cross
band HT's have the ability to TX on one band while Receiving on the other
band at the same time!
I have actually connected an FRS Handheld to a USB FOB... I was able to
control it from the repeater Node... or a telephone thru Asterisk! I could
Xmt When needed by DTMF Control!! However if you need the DTMF control from
the RF side of the HT... you will find issues unless you cross band it. (
cross Banded you do not need a duplexer...
I believe, The USB FOB needs to be set up for VOX or CTCSS to gain a form of
COR.
I hope this blabbering helped!
Good Luck,
Roger W4RFJ

Subject: [App_rpt] Simplex node with just RXAud/TXAud/PTT ?
Is there any way (for testing right now, maybe short term usage for
one node) to utilize just an HT for the simplex node? I see that if I
am not coming off the discriminator (I wouldn't be, I'd be using
speaker) I can't use the DSP functions for tone decode. For this type
of connection I would probably have the radio set up in a squelched
state and with CTCSS encode/decode turned on in the radio, so I'd need
app_rpt to just detect an audio level instead of COR.
I have a connection set up that way, and the TX is fine, and for RX
the DTMF tones do produce output on the console showing they are
decoded, but I cannot trigger any functions while doing this,
presumably because it either thinks no carrier is there or it thinks
it hasn't dropped, I'm not sure which.
Any thoughts on this? It would sure make my life easier in the short
term.
I tried carrierfrom=dsp and carrierfrom=vox... even carrierfrom=no
doesn't make it response to DTMF tones. rxsquelch shows Current
Signal Strength of 999.
Also, if I have no unsquelched audio, the radio tune rxnoise will
fail. But yet for the way I would like to run it there would be no rx
audio without a carrier present.
I know I read that a minimum connection was just rxaudio, txaudio and
PTT so I'm hoping there is some way to make this work with the
modified USB FOB.
Thanks,
Steve
