I think if I was in need of IO I would go the USB route rather than fooling with the internal bus. But,For simplicity and cost, you should only look for a PCI printer port card and hijack the lines internally or the built in port externally "if I understand what you are doing". I'v been using the PP for repeater control lines since '95 in a DOS box.
