The URI will not work with a virtual server. Not true. I have done it with VMWare. On Wed, Jun 26, 2013 at 11:44 AM, Kirk Just Kirk <wb6egr@gmail.com> wrote:
Save the IRLP bashing for another day? Why.....just call it like it is. It was good in it's day...but so was AM Stereo,Betamax and Furby. IRLP will soon become a memory. After all....who pays $170 for a obsolete PCB with a SSI202 chip on it..... On Jun 26, 2013 8:37 AM, "Michael Hebert" <mhebert1975@gmail.com> wrote:

Just to be clear, I dumped IRLP a long time ago. Reasons include, but are not limited to, IRLP being a giant kludge. I'll save the IRLP bashing for another day.
I like virtualizing for security reasons, as well as reducing the electric bill from having to run multiple different systems. I've had good results so far virtualizing with VirtualBox.
Just wondering if AllStar plays well virtualized, especially with the URI and USB sound fobs.

Why virtualize (I am assuming you are thinking of a third party product) – this is linux – a multi-tasking environment. You can run both on the same machine.

Hi, group!
I'm new to app_rpt RoIP, coming from a background with IRLP.
I'm wondering if anyone has ever tried virtualizing AllStar, and if so, were there any issues.
Thanks!

Robert,
I am using a Neoware CA-22. It is both server and node on one machine. I do not have any other machines for my allstar node. While watching top, the CPU has yet to get busier than 0.4. It is using DSP for audio, and runs without fail.
It has 12Vdc input with a standard barrel plug. Not sure what the low voltage cut-off is, but it runs fine on a SLA battery that just came from an auto charger that goes to float after bulk charging brings it up to 14.1V. The current draw varies, usually above 500mA at idle, and about 750mA when I'm talking to or listening on the node.
It has a 1GHz processor, 1GB RAM and 1GB flash drive. I used what I had, but you will have space left over if you are only able to get 512MB RAM and 512MB flash.
I don't remember if I am using Limey Linux for VIA or i686. I am thinking it's the for for i686 as I tried loading other linux distros for VIA on there before I got into allstar and they just plain sucked and didn't work for garbage.

All,
I am looking for recommendations on small, preferably inexpensive, systems that are capable of running on 12v to take advantage of the redundant power systems at our sites.
I would like it to support at least two nodes running simpleusb as I don't need the DSP processing capabilities. The idea is that these systems would be connected to a port on an existing controller.
I expect that HP thin clients are going to be my best bet, but there seem to be many different models so I don't know where to begin.
Suggestions or thoughts?
