Yes, If you changed things in a .c file it would have to be recompiled to take advantage of it. The source is in /usr/src/astsrc/ Compiling is easy. Just make sure you make backups of the file(s) you change so you can go back if there is a problem. Make the change(s) Then issue these commands.... make clean ./configure make make install It takes about 10 minutes to a half hour or more depending on the speed of your system. Heat gun removed the blob no worries, but removed (or destroyed) everything else as well. Might be a good option if you wanted to desolder the entire board which it did famously, but removing the blob also removed the chip and after that of course the computer wouldn't recognise the device. $3.50 down the flusher, oh well!
