As many of you know, I was in Dayton for the Hamfest. Because of my physical requirements the only way to get there and back was to drive. Needless to say, it was a long, miserable drive and it took a LOT out of me. I got back yesterday at about noon, and spent the ENTIRE day in bed. After an entire day of rest, I feel awful, which is MUCH MUCH better then I did before all of the rest. Needless to say it will probably take a few days to get back to feeling "normal". :-) I hadnt even had time to check emails, do Allstar validations or anything else in the past few days. Sorry, I will try to "catch up" will all this stuff today. Dayton was massively cool. Realistically, I dont think it would be possible for me to EVER even THINK of taking a trip like that again. It might be kinda cool to maybe see if someone can arrange something here in the LA area?? :-) JIM

Jim, The idea of doing something in the LA area is a great one. Maybe one or more of the local radio clubs would be able to sponsor an event? My thought is that there are probably ham clubs that already have arrangements to meet at public community centers. I suspect that such a group could arrange to get space for a gathering at little or no expense. Heck, it would even be possible to start a Southern California Allstar group that would have periodic meetings / seminars. This might be more successful than a lot of radio clubs these days as it would have a specific focus. I'd be happy to try to help if there are others interested. There were quite a few of us that attended the VoIP "Conference" in Las Vegas, Nevada that is hosted by the NARRI group. This year it was moved to Reno to go along with EMCOMM. Personally I don't think that was a smart move.... We have had Demos/Workshops/Video presentations there with Jim WB6NIL. Steve/WB9STH and my self (WB6EGR) brought several demo boxes, ones using laptops,ITX boards and last year I brought a Beagle/Lox setup. Hopefully "Get Togethers" like this will continue... Ever since Dave Cameron got his panties in a wad about Allstar emulating IRLP and threatened to kick us all off his system (it was cutting into his selling $170 obsolete boards) MANY systems have completely dumped IRLP in favor of Allstar.Even a complete "Appliance Operator" can see WHY thats a "No Brainer". It was like throwing gasoline on the campfire,everyone saw the effect. No more "Peeking/Poking" that LPT1 port (that no machine after 2006 has) While a "Nationwide" GTG is hard to plan and execute, local ones are easy to do. Maybe Kent/W7AOR will again host something like this in Las Vegas (as it's a fun place to visit).Vegas is NOT a easy drive for Central California, but some can find deeply discounted airfare to/from Vegas. After setting up a couple of Allstar nodes, I'm building an IRLP node. (not my choice, but there are some repeaters in other states I want to get to that only do IRLP…) I'm surprised how painful the IRLP hardware setup is... then I find out the IRLP board doesn't even deal with the RX/TX audio. You need a sound card for that! I'm spoiled by the URI and Allstar now. Does anybody know if I can install and run the IRLP software on the same Centos distro that Allstar is running on? I am struggling trying to figure this out. I have 2 repeaters on the same box, and each one of the have a unique courtesy tone. But when I link them, they loose that courtesy tone and start using remotetx which makes it so both repeaters have the same CT. So I went in to the rpt.conf file and under the nodes I change "telemetry=telemetry1" for node 1 and "telemetry=telemetry2" for node 2. Then under "[telemetry1]" I define a diffrent remotetx ct. but that did not work. It seems that the line "telemetry=telemetry1" does not work. Thanks --Sione
