Ken, Yes, The RPi2 can be used as a low cost node to run a couple of radios / repeaters If you want to build it, rather then a 1 size fits all image, you can download the scripts you need from: <https://github.com/N4IRS/AllStar>

This list is just fine to discuss ARM based AllStar installs. There are quite a few users here running RPi1, RPi2 and other ARM based boards. If you would rather use a X86 board, there is a Debian alternative to Acid on the way. From "bare metal" to fully functional node.

I also wanted to mention that I am running the Debian pi2 image using usbradio that n4irs shared the link for and I have no issues with it at all. It just works! I don't have any audio delays at all with it using the usbradio setup.

Can anyone help me understand what is going on when a node I have will not connect to another node. The reason in the CLI is due to slow response auto conjesting. Sometimes to get around it to keep my links up I will connect from the opposite node.

The best I can tell is I've run traceroute from both ends and the routes are not identical so something on the path of the node is slowing it down in one direction. Although I'm not really sure. This happens about once a month and I'd like to understand what is happening.
