Thanks to Mike N4IRR being impatient, I received my DV4Mini today. I have it running on a Odroid C1 under Jessie. The UI is running on my Linux work station. Played a little with D-Star on the DCS006 Z. Seems to work. Have not had a real QSO yet. Played around a little with DMR+ More to follow. I really want to get one of these to start playing. I'm not sure how to feed this into a DV3000 I had to google USRP just to decode what was said. I have a feeling it won't be long before p25, dstar, dmr, and analog will all be able to talk together on allstar! I already have dmr radios. The DV4MINI is at a very low price point too! The USRP channel driver was created for for the OP25 project. A open source P25 project. It listens on a UDP port for decoded audio and passes it to asterisk and vise versa. We used the USRP channel driver to listen to a DMR repeater and send the audio to AllStar. It was a heck of a lot easier then writing a new channel or hacking up a existing one. So when you say decoded audio you mean something like coming from a hytera programmed to send that audio from its RJ45 on the back? Where does the dv3000 come into play? Robert, As a system, there is no documentation you can read. You want to look at the parts and then understand how this goes together. Start with a analog receiver listening to a DMR signal feeding discriminator audio to a sound fob or URI plugged in to a RPi. The RPi is running DSD under Linux listening to the URI. DSD unmodified uses a software based AMBE decoder. That decoder software is a violation of DVSI copyright. So we replace it with the DV3000. DSD modified sends the AMBE packets to a DV3000 mounted on the RPi. The DV3000 takes the AMBE packets and decodes them to PCM (analog audio) The analog audio packets are sent to the USRP channel driver . The USRP channel driver just like the simple_usb channel driver sends audio to asterisk. The "glue" that puts this together is software. This is not off the shelf software. Going forward, DSD will be gone. It works OK, but there is better. Next the sound FOB will go away. This will be replaced by a purpose built digital audio modem. Start reading up on MMDVM from Jonathan G4KLX. Once we start using the MMDVM transmit will be possible. As Mike mentioned somewhere, The is metadata that will come into play and will have to be dealt with. The parts you want to start researching: MMDVM DSD DV3000 USRP channel driver. You can get your feet wet by setting up a receiver and DSD. With that you can listen to DMR, D-Star and P25 unencrypted signals. From what I understand the DMR+ network is pretty small in the US. Best I could tell p25 reflectors were even fewer. I guess they're are tons of d-star reflectors. I have plenty of access to DMR gear at work so it doesn't make sense to invest on D-Star. My hopes is this list might make
I come from a radio background. I have training in computers but I'm playing a lot of catch-up with linux and actually understanding data streams. I suppose I should buy one of these dv4mini and another pi to start playing. I have a couple of xpr6550s that I could use in conjunction. that a thing of the past where we can "run what ya brung" and all talk.
