Upgrade from Dial to ASL distro.
So this has probably already been answered and forgive me if it has. I have a problem with reading through the crap load of emails I have. And I mean a CRAP load. 1st. What's the advantage (differences) to moving to the ASL distro that's posted compared to the DIAL distro? 2nd. Is there an upgrade path from the 1 to the other? 3rd. I do have a hard drive where I installed the ASL version and called myself importing my settings. My node is working well as a standard repeater but I am not registering with the ALLSTAR network and the node is not responding to ANY DTMF commands, including status, id, or any other local commands. It transmits periodically like its id'ing but no sound. My audio is setup because ive used the echo function and that's working properly and audio, deviation and all of the cool repeater settings are clean Where do I need to start looking for these couple of issues? I am back online now because I put the DIAL release hard drive back in just to be accessible for the time being. Thanks all Harold K7ILO

Check permissions and any special folders you may have created for scripts you are calling along with those files. for starters... I am just checking with you in a step by step. I had a strange incidence but I doubt this is the same as mine so rather than run you on some wild theory... one step at a time. Yes, I did copy my files over to the new debian from acid. I might also ask if you used usbradio / simpleusb .confs anew or used your old ones ? But check permissions on your config files first. Hey Mike I am going to attempt the upgrade once again this weekend. And if I have issues, I will PM the files to you to have a look. The permissions of my DIAL files are the same as the new ones so I don't see any issues there. And Tim. Thanks for that process. I will use that this weekend and see what happens. There is not much to change when there is one node on your server. I learn something every time I go through the process as the comments generally get updated with each new release. Also there is a chance something will have to be different with a new release, so the safe bet is modify the existing config and read the comments: - Copy the provided config directory: /etc/asterisk to something like /etc/asterisk.orig or .bak - Grep (or search rpt.conf, extensions.conf and iax.conf) for node 1999 and change that to your node number. - In iax.conf, in addition to changing to your node number, uncomment the register line and change it to your node's password. - Also in iax.conf remember to add the port if you use something other than 4569 (your server's port on allstarlink.org must match iax.conf). - In rpt.conf change rxchannel= to your channel driver. - Do the setup procedure for your channel driver or copy over the file (ex: simpleusb.conf) Having said that, doesn't ASL 1.01 have a script to help with this, 'nodesetup' or something like that? Seems like there was even a menu item for this. On Mon, Jul 16, 2018 at 9:07 PM <k7ilo1@gmail.com> wrote:

Well at this point I am thinking that my allstar files that work flawlessly under the DIAL distro is not liked by the version of Asterisk (which I am assuming is a newer version) under the ASL distro. When I install the ASL distro and use asl-menu to reset my node up, I do show up on the stats page and I have intermittent DTMF functions meaning that the machine will response to the forced id status command and that’s about it and that’s intermittent. It will not connect to any node. I didn’t try all of course but I tried many. When I move my files from my DIAL distro, nothing works except for the repeater function. All audio levels are in spec and all file permissions are a the same as the newer version file permissions. I put my DIAL distro HD back into the machine and all is well. Umma keep that one running until I really need to upgrade because there are no other options. Thanks all for your suggestions but they are not working for me. Harold K7ILO Node 27863 Las Vegas, NV. Hmmm... I’d recheck settings, or perhaps your host hardware. I updated an old ACID node a few months ago with ASL on an RPi3. I did have to update some of the /etc/asterisk/*.conf files like modules.conf. I may have a short memory, but it seemed to work quit well, and it’s still online without issues. It is very stable, and used daily, connecting to other nodes, etc. Thanks, Bob K6ECM 73

All audio levels are in spec and all file permissions are a the same as the newer version file permissions.
I put my DIAL distro HD back into the machine and all is well. Umma keep that one running until I really need to upgrade because there are no other options.
Thanks all for your suggestions but they are not working for me.

- Do the setup procedure for your channel driver or copy over the file (ex: simpleusb.conf)
Having said that, doesn't ASL 1.01 have a script to help with this, 'nodesetup' or something like that? Seems like there was even a menu item for this.

No go. Maybe this version of Asterisk does not like the machine im running it on, (hardware as U say). Ill see if I can dig up another one around here and try it again. In the meantime ill put my old install back in so that I can be communicated with. There is not much to change when there is one node on your server. I learn something every time I go through the process as the comments generally get updated with each new release. Also there is a chance something will have to be different with a new release, so the safe bet is modify the existing config and read the comments:
- Copy the provided config directory: /etc/asterisk to something like /etc/asterisk.orig or .bak
- Grep (or search rpt.conf, extensions.conf and iax.conf) for node 1999 and change that to your node number.
- Do the setup procedure for your channel driver or copy over the file (ex: simpleusb.conf)
Having said that, doesn't ASL 1.01 have a script to help with this, 'nodesetup' or something like that? Seems like there was even a menu item for this.

Hey Tim Im not sure at this point but before I check that, I am going to have a look at my files as Mike suggested. In the past, I have actually modified these files under Win-blows so there is that possibility that I do have some file destroying junk in them from the Win-blows editors. But let me ask. When I install the new ASL distro, should I just copy my files over and restart asterisk or go through the node setup process via the asl-menu app? I will do a re-install of the .iso and try it that way. Maybe that is my issue. Whatcha think? Always go through the provided setup, review the configs it generates and "tweak" as necessary. -Stacy
