I think I remember a thread before on this, and I am pretty sure the answer is no, but is voicemail possible on AllStar KDØWHB -- Skyler Fennell amsatnet.info KDØWHB electricity440@gmail.com
The question should be how can you leave voice messages.. Asterisk is capable of Voicemail but the next question is it legal to record a message across the air and play it back? I dont know and I think it would be a cool idea to have an *933 to leave a voice message for the owner of the system.. Hard to say though how it would all work.. It is in a limited way. You can drop mail into boxes directly as a phone patch and use hang-up code when done. Pipe it to some other device/method/asterisk server for additional use. As I 'remember' it(?), The problem you have is having access to * and # while in the radio channel (default). You can wiggle around the problem with some thought. It can be used with phones connected to the server. ...mike/kb8jnm

In reply to Loren, I think its legal, because the simplex repeater module that you can buy has it. The reason I asked is because I am writing a script for voicemail, and I wanted to make sure nobody has done it already. On Thu, Oct 15, 2015 at 5:40 PM, <mike@midnighteng.com> wrote:

I can't think of any reason it would be illegal, I wrote a script for IRLP a few years ago, that worked quite well, so if you get something working for Allstar, over the air, that would be awesome. It is legal as the communication you make with it. I had it set-up years ago but don't really have a lot of use for it. As I said, it is limited to dialing a mailbox as a phone patch and using a hang-up code when done.(leaving a message) But to listen to messages on a mailbox, you are out of luck on the radio side. You need to use a phone. I suppose you could make-shift a way around it but is that really worth it ? ...mike/kb8jnm

Way back when; my repeater system was run by an FF-800 controller with mailbox/DVR option. It was very popular with the users. Full voice prompts with send/receive voice messages. All over RF. Pretty spiffy but when our little town got a cellular tower, activity/need, died. Cellphones got cheap and came with voicemail etc etc. Chris KB0WLF

Voicemail is possible if you follow the directions for setting up the voice mailboxes for Asterisk 1.4. It will involve having voicemail.conf file with the various options needed and something in your dialplan in extensions.conf for it. You will also need to make sure app_voicemail.so isn't set to noload in your modules.conf file. Various links with information on setting it up: http://www.asteriskguru.com/tutorials/voicemaile_conf.html http://the-asterisk-book.com/1.6/kapitel-voicemail.html http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+cmd+VoiceMail http://mike.eire.ca/2011/08/16/asterisk-vm-multiple-addresses/ It is actually pretty easy. I don't recommend it though if you are running a Raspberry PI with a SD Card/flash drive -- it is better if you have a HD or SDD setup to store the files. You can even have the voicemail messages attached to an e-mail and sent to you for listening. 73, Stacy KG7QIN On 10/15/2015 03:53 PM, Skyler F wrote:
