Does anyone have a working circuit diagram for Baofeng/Kenwood to URIx?
I am looking for a circuit diagram so I can fabricate a cable to connect a URIx to a Baofeng (or pair of Baofeng's) suitable for use with ACID/Allstar. Any assistance would be useful. I doubt you will find much help anywhere. Baofeng radios lack COR and discriminator output so they would not be suitable for use with allstar. The only portable I know of that works is the Kenwood F6 with it mic/speaker port set for packet mode. But the duty cycle required for allstar or any repeater/remote base is fairly high and portables are not suitable for long term use. Which Baofeng radio? I have used the Baofeng UV-5R and it works by using the the Mic jacks for rx/tx and PTT for the COS you have to solder to pin 2 of the audio chip which is pretty tiny but can be done. Baufongs most certainly do have a cor output. They have a busy light don’t they? YES they do! There are schematics on the internet for the Baofeng portable. Hi Guys, I'll mention that I'm currently using many (10+) BF-888s UHF Baofeng HT's and they actually sound and work great. REALLY great! At $18 each, including shipping, drop-in charger, lithium battery, etc., they are an incredible deal. I have noticed the factory quality control isn't perfect...But, hey--it cost $18!!! I'm powering my "base station" HT radios using homebrew linear voltage regulators (AKA: battery eliminator). The only real issue I've noticed with the 888's is that they have pretty noisy frequency synthesizers: meaning they won't make a very good repeater. But, for a local coverage (few thousand feet), experimental/home repeater or simplex base, they actually work nicely, with good quality audio. Try some! You don't -have- to have discriminator audio out of the radio. Sure, it sounds better and you can let the DSP in Allstar do your encoding and decoding of sub-audible tones, but there's more than one channel driver and therefore more options to get audio in/out. I'm using speaker and mic audio, in fact, on my DCS toned Motorola R100 repeater.
While I am not a fan of Baofang radios or buying from the Chinese you most certainly can modify one to work with IRLP or Allstar. I have talked to several on the air. You would use simpleusb and the following is an example of a mod on one model radio. Hello, This is an old thread, but I failed to see it until now. I have been using a Baofeng BF888S and also a UV-5R with a URIx from DMK Engineering for over a year. The wiring is pretty straightforward. COR can be obtained from an audio chip inside the radio.
