No, I'd encourage you to actually read and study the underlying issues. The FRC was corrupt, that was proven. FASMA has been doing lots of good. ARCD was corrupted by Brian Kantor and a massive fraud was perpetuated upon hams. I will not comment more as there is an active investigation.

Ok what control do I have on allstarlink? none, what control do I have on any ham group? none. the only place where someone could think I have some control is on the ham radio operator facebook group. one of 6 admin. And none of the 6 is the leader of the group. we work as a community. I also help maintain the canadian BM server, but again I have no control over this..

The problem is a web forum is not as well served to a community as a mailing list is. If you want to be a member of a community with a web forum, you have to keep going to that forum day in and day out. But with a mailing list, everything just comes into your mailbox, and you can keep up as much or little as you want. I myself would prefer that mailing lists stay used over a web based forum! Tim, When the list moved to a web forum the community was never asked about this nor was it shown that one could continue to subscribe as a mailing list. Web forums do not serve a community well where one has to go to the forum regularly to participate. An email list comes to you. Much easier for the list subscribers to participate and communicate. I don’t like to see the community broken apart and splintered as it is but better communication between the board, the tech committee, and the users would go a long way toward working out many of the issues that have come up and caused this divide. Until the board gets its act together and starts running this in the interest of the userbase doing what is needed on the business side to remain functional as required by law this division is likely to remain. Allstar management is not just a bunch of paper pushers as you would lead people to believe.
And yes, we value uptime. That's why we're steering Allstar towards solutions that don't require cron jobs to restart services as often as every 10 minutes. Yet, when we propose an alternative it's instantly called an "abortion". I get where you are coming from, Bryan. I used to think I was smarter than management. Tim, As a user and a member of the list I was never asked what served me best and I don’t see where anyone else was asked what works for them either. The change seems to have been done by decree not by community consensus and was presented as use the forum or take a hike. Had this move actually been discussed and the features of the new site been discussed and the needs of the users considered maybe a few more of us would have moved. It was not until a few days ago when this list came alive again that I even knew of any ability to use the new forum in a listserv format. Again communication with the asl userbase seems lacking. One of the nice features of Community is you can 'unsubscribe' to threads. For example if you didn't want to follow this endless debate over which is better; email or forum, you can and still keep up on everything else. Before I got busy with $DAYJOB, I used to try to help people out on the mailing list, when I'd see a question I could answer. Now, that's impossible to do, unless you go to the website every day. Agreed about the mail list being active. I was trying to be involved in the open repeater project and was for a bit, but then slack signed me off and I didn't notice it and lost touch. Yeah, it works ok, if you want to have to remember to visit a website every day if you want to be a part of the community. Before I got busy with $DAYJOB, I used to try to help people out on the mailing list, when I'd see a question I could answer. Now, that's impossible to do, unless you go to the website every day. With a mailing list, you can filter off the messages, come back to them a month or 3 down the road and catch up on what's happening. I honestly have gotten tired of trying to be part of web forums - I have limited time on the computer, I can't spend it jumping around between multiple forums.
If you want to use the forum, great. But do not keep those of us who *DO* want to stick with a mailing list from doing so! If the AllStar "management" (last time I heard this was an open-source community, not a dictatorship) had given people warning, maybe we could have steered them in the right direction.

If you ask 100 different people their opinion on how to do something you will inevitably receive 100 different answers. I don't chime in here too often but I do pay attention to what is going on. I can see the main reason why someone would like the "push" feature of a mailing list but just in my opinion, mailing lists are clunky and outdated. I am a member of many forums where you can be notified to new posts and replies to a new post exactly like a mailing list. So moving to a forum would be again, in MY opinion the better choice. With that said, I have noticed in other projects such as this one, this same breakdown. A person with a vision creates something great and when they are gone it goes to shit because of infighting. There are too many people in the ham community that are EXTREMELY unwilling to put forth any effort to help make something or keep something good going. It seems almost everyone just "wants it to work" and doesn't care how it gets done as long as someone else figures it out. My own lived experience is with my 3 site Allstar simulcast system, as some may know on here, I had a issue with PL transmit synchronization using the RTCM by micronode, but instead of whining about "why doesn't it just work" I solved the problem with some work and then freely shared everything I did with the public so they could do it too and I also helped others to get it working, along with that I could find no one willing to help me build the system here and wound up doing it all myself physically and financially. This illustrates my main point, that in order for this project to continue to exist people in this community we need to STOP pointing fingers and SUGGEST SOLUTIONS and put forward some effort and not just keep blaming people all the time. I won't take sides in this fight because I believe choosing a side causes you to put blinders on and it keeps you from see the full picture. The problem with forums is, I don't want to be constantly getting notifications of a new post. My internet time is limited, so I want those posts sitting in my mailbox until *I* choose to read them. That's what a mailing list does that a web-based forum does not.

From what I have seen, the "managers" do not *WANT* community assistance! I have in the past offered to help out - and mind you I'm no newbie - I have over 20 years of experience as a Linux sysadmin (the last 14 helping with a 400-machine datacenter in the media industry pushing over 4Gbit/s), more than 5 years experience running Asterisk PBX's, and over 25 years as a ham - and has anyone ever taken me up on that offer? NO!

I'd love to, but see above - offers to help are met with silence. And it's not as if AllStarLink doesn't *need* help - I mean, for crying out loud, they are distributing Asterisk 1.4.23! That was released in Jan 2009, over 10 years ago! I'm relatively sure that something this old is riddled with security holes - why are we still running this way???!!! Tried following the referral links you posted but I don't find where I can be emailed a copy of each new posting to the Community Forum. I do get a summary notice that says there was activity. However it tells me nothing other than I need to use a browser and actually visit the Community Web site. Then hunt menu wise to find a listing of any new posts. Perhaps I misunderstand your comment of being able to revert to just a mail list only mode.

Tim had already made an example of where and how to change the settings. It shows up if you use the Menu to look at the the Catagory "Site Feedback". I didn't realize he had done that prior to sending my first request. When Community starts here it always jumps so some thread and you need to use their menu to find latest and new message lists.
