So I've been looking at DMR networks. I am across EWARN which appears tied into DCI. They have all kinds of links going on all of the different formats. Even a allstar node. Had a little time this weekend. The DV4Mini works, but the software sucks! Mike N4IRR is addressing this. I had no experience with the Hytera reflector system since my DMR repeaters are all Motorola. The DV4Mini talks to the Hytera reflector. As it turns out there is some closed source (yuck) software from Germany that will allow a Motorola IPSC network on slot 2 to connect to Hytera reflector. It works and runs under Linux. I have our 2 Motorola repeaters connecting on TG 9 to the Hytera reflector. As of now, we have DMR-MARC, DCI and Hytera available. The software is at <http://download.prgm.org/dl5di-soft/dmrplusmb/> 73, Steve N4IRS -- "Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about." 1st Law of Logic

Wtf is the common thing in ham radio to have closed source stuff? There is no money to be made here, and everyone wants to be all secret squirrel about their stuff while benefiting from the work of other. It makes me want to fire up IDA, pick it apart and publish it. I've been going through this with the Quantar Site Connect guy right now. Admittedly I'm a hardware guy (my code is awful), but I still document and release what I do under the GPL. If you want a system that has full access to the functionality of Motorola's IPSC and the Hytera equivalent, the only way to go that will allow software to be made in a reasonable timeframe is to sign the NDA to get access to the real thing, which is what the guys in Germany have done. I actually know one of the guys, as he has worked with Jonathan G4KLX in the past on open source stuff. What happens when someone pulls the plug on allstar? What happens when someone pulls the plug on fusion? Nothing is forever. I highly doubt any plugs are getting pulled yaesu is putting a lot "skin in the game" to see fusion a success. Hell c-bridge operators pull the plug on the DMR-MARC network when they get fed up. This is true Robert, however I still like the concept of keeping everything in an Allstar network. If the Allstar Server went away, there are workarounds. I actually have several nodes on the air that the Allstar Server does not know about. But I will agree with your point on pulling the plug On Nov 5, 2015 1:05 PM, "Robert Newberry" <N1XBM@amsat.org> wrote:

I think my aversion to Wires is centered around a Windows box that the radio or repeater has to be linked through. I would guess that the WIRES-X interface could be used with a non-wiresx environment. Or I am just a radio snob... Could be that too On Nov 5, 2015 1:05 PM, "Robert Newberry" <N1XBM@amsat.org> wrote:

I haven't tried it, but I've had good success using ubuntu and wine to run windows apps. N1XBM Apparare Scientor Paratus Communicare Allstar Node # 27086, 41540, 41812, 42086
Just extra stuff to have to auto start in the event of a power failure. GUI driven shtuff at a remote site is not ideal. For me it is a deal breaker. Allstar interface is clean and simple. Just will have to keep plugging away until I get it right. We have alot of brain power here. Why be content with the old wheel when we can make a better one? Ron, It can be done, I'm sure. I'm coming to believe that the audio coming out of the radio is already close to PCM/uLaw quality (or should be) so we should be able to pipe that into AllStar, then pass that down the line to other modes.
