Hello, I have an RTCM operational as a Mix-station in an environment with other RTCM's in voting configuration. The Mix-station RSSI does not appear to represent the actual signal level as a very binary 0 or 255 value is displayed, irrespective of signal level. I understand a fix for this has been made. If it is in mix mode rather than voter mode then RSSI has no meaning. If the signal opens the squelch it will mix in with the best voted node. It is not intended to listen on the same frequency since it has no GPS timing to align the audio samples with the other nodes. It's true that RSSI is not relevant to the operation of mix mode. But the RSSI reading should work exactly as it does for voted mode. The noise squelch circuit is the same in either mode. With a near binary RSSI (as Kevin described) I'd be concerned the discriminator audio has a poor noise component or that something is wrong with the RTCM. Interesting... a bit more detail. The RTCM RSSI performs as expected with the same receiver if in a voter configuration. In mix, binary operation only. I failed previously to mention that the mix station is a disparate node, not part of the voter group node. The RTCM also interfaces with the CTCSS status line of the receiver. Tim, are you operating with a similar configuration for your mix node? As stated before, if the squelch is open, irrespective of SNR, only 255 is displayed. I’m thinking that if the discriminator has poor resolution, the squelch circuit wouldn’t function at all. Aside from RSSI indication, behavior is as expected.
