220 is offline.
by Bryan Fields 20 Mar '16

The 220 repeater is offline. I had a simple project to intergrate the 440 and 900 mhz into the controller today, but this caused the controller to not boot for some stupid reason. It's not hardware, or at least the pciradio card. Looks like a complete re-install of the OS at this point. Hope to have it working later this week. -- Bryan Fields, W9CR Florida Simulcast Group, Inc.

Repeater updates
by Bryan Fields 13 Mar '16

I was over today doing some more work at the site, everything is still online and operating. I swapped the LMR400 coax out for 1/2" heliax and grounded it for one of the business band repeaters today, and remounted the GPS antenna on a better mount. I pulled 9 runs of CAT-5 for the data radios and installed a UPS from home too. Granted this doesn't seam like much, but there is quite a bit that goes into putting in coax. * The heliax needs connectors on it which takes about 20 min per connector to install. * Coax needs to be grounded with a ground kit after it's installed, and this requires antioxidant compound and cleaning. Then you have to seal up the jacket of the coax. * once inside the shelter you need to install a lightning arrestor with more antioxidant * then a jumper of coax is made up and fished in the ladder racks to the repeater. Tomorrow we will get the grounding done up at the top roof and some final tweaking of the antennas completed. If all goes well I'd like to get the 440 and 900 mhz repeaters interfaced to the computer controller and off the internal controllers. This will allow us to link them to the 220 and other repeaters once the internet is hooked up. We may be adding a pre-amp to the 440 repeater to see if we can get it hearing a bit better. The 220 is working well enough to not mess with at this point. 900 seams to actually be working well as far as I can tell. We've not heard many people on 900 to test with. Repeater update
by Bryan Fields 05 Mar '16

05 Mar '16

So we did some more work today. We have moved the UHF repeater to the 11 dBd gain antenna at the very top of the bird cage. The lower antenna is live with the business band repeater now. The frequency is now 443.525 PL 146.2 and p25 NAC of 293, transmitting about 50W into the antenna. I'm going to put in for a coordination on this frequency. We got the 900 MHz repeater online on 927.050- DCS 546 and P25 NAC of 293. We may enable hearclear for analog mode. As of now each repeater is using it's built in controller, we do plan to migrate to asterisk based controllers in the future. Still more to be done, but it's getting to be less and less on the floor and more in the racks. I'll post some pictures when I have the chance later. BTW I hear James, KM4CEF is feeling better and I wish him a speedy recovery. 73's -- Bryan Fields, W9CR Florida Simulcast Group, Inc.

forgive my non knowledge but will we be doing digital over the 220 repeater? If so would I be able to hook up a tnc to the Motorolas that are being offered? Tyler KM4RAE -- xlr12 xloner12(a)gmail.com

224.280 online (kind of)
by Bryan Fields 27 Feb '16

27 Feb '16

Kris and I spent about 8 hours running cable and setting up the repeaters today. 224.280 is online, somewhat... I suspect the master clock is not seeing GPS right, whether it's a cable issue or something else, I'm not sure. I did key it up from inside my home on my HT1250 about 30 miles away and had a brief QSO on it while it was working. We don't have IP up there yet so I can't really debug it or test. Give it a listen, perhaps it will stabilize. 73's -- Bryan Fields, W9CR Florida Simulcast Group, Inc.

Repeater update
by Bryan Fields 21 Feb '16

21 Feb '16

Matt and I are headed over to the site to do some work today, and I'm going to try to be there monday afternoon as well to monitor some of the commercial frequencies during the work day. I have the 224.280 repeater fully integrated and it was keyed down for about 12 hours with out so much as a drop in power from 82-85W. Note this is the output past the filters, and we still have a -122.8 dBm (about .161 uV) for 12 dB SINAD receiver sensitivity with the preselector in line. There is no desense noticeable in testing. http://gallery.keekles.org/d/30602-1/220+repeater+testing.jpg I'm hoping we can get the antennas up today and possibly the coax run/grounded. As the repeater needs IP to really work, I might be able to get a basic stand alone mode going in the interim. 73's -- Bryan Fields, W9CR Florida Simulcast Group, Inc.

Frequency pairs
by Bryan Fields 19 Feb '16

19 Feb '16

If you have a scanner, give a listen to these channels, they are potential for the business band repeaters. I've pulled who's licensed on them too. The important thing is to find the upper frequency is clear at the main site of IMD. I'm thinking 464.0125 and 464.1875 might be the least used. Part 90 does not give you an exclusive frequency like most ham repeaters get :( I pulled what was on each frequency in 60 miles. Might be worth a look. *464/9.0125 * PINECREST PLACE - WQRX875 - 60 4W HT's 1150 8 AVE SW LARGO, FL PINELLAS County *464/9.1875 * FREEDOM VILLAGE - WPZD922 Location 4, 35 45W mobiles 32km radius 6406 21ST AVE W BRADENTON, FL MANATEE County STEINBRENNER HIGH SCHOOL - WQVW762 100 4W portables 32km radius 5575 W. Test repeater update
by Bryan Fields 15 Feb '16

15 Feb '16

The 444.575 repeater was changed to 444.725+ with a PL of 146.2. We did this today as we were getting some interference from a remote broadcast pickup. We're not sure if it receiver overload or a mix product on 449.575. If it's the first we'll be able to notch it out, but a mix might make that unusable at that site. As of now there is another repeater at 40' in Maderia Beach on that frequency, but with a different PL. You may hear this, don't worry about the interference, it's a shared pair till we figure it out. 73's -- Bryan Fields, W9CR Florida Simulcast Group, Inc.
