Update on the 443.525 repeater
by Bryan Fields 28 Jul '18

28 Jul '18

We did some work today on the 443.525 repeater to investigate the noise. The DB-410 antenna we're on is the cause, and as it's about 40 years old, it will need to be replaced. We're on a backup antenna now (hambone special) and it's working. As part of this we're likely going to rethink some of the original install issues at the site. The 3.4 GHz radio to St Pete has been replaced and the firmware is upgraded. As a bonus for testing we have left the 224.280 repeater keyed up, so you may notice it. 73's -- Bryan Fields, W9CR Florida Simulcast Group, Inc.

Hamwan Tampa testing, outage notice
by Bryan Fields 10 Jun '18

10 Jun '18

We're going to be doing some testing and optimizations of frequency use later today. You will need to ensure your radio is online, as we may need to get into the clients to change some of the config. We expect to have a small outage (1-2 hours intermittently) sometime later tonight, but everything should be resolved by midnight. If you see any issues tomorrow, please hit up the list. 73s -- Bryan Fields, W9CR Florida Simulcast Group, Inc.

St Pete Analog/P25 update
by Bryan Fields 02 May '18

02 May '18

Something was wrong on the interfacing logic for analog lock and reset of the system and was causing the channels to not switch properly on the quantar repeater for P25 and Analog. I've disabled most of this advanced functionality, so now if the controller fails, the analog side will be offline, not revert to in cabinet repeat mode. After 10 seconds of local keyup in analog or p25 mode, the station will lock to that mode for about 5.5 minutes, after which it will revert to mixed mode. During this lock time, the repeater will not repeat or send from the wireline the other mode. When the station does lock to a mode, you may hear a brief drop during the channel change. The logic used is documented here: http://wiki.w9cr.net/index.php/Allstar_and_P25_on_Quantar Thanks, -- Bryan Fields, W9CR Florida Simulcast Group, Inc.

St Pete Repeaters are Online
by Bryan Fields 30 Apr '18

30 Apr '18

http://flscg.org/2018/04/st-pete-repeaters-are-online/ Over this weekend the FSG site in St Pete came online. We have three UHF repeaters online at the 400' level in downtown St Petersburg. The Frequencies are: 443.7625 NXDN (RAN1) 444.3750 Analog and P25 (146.2 PL/293 NAC) and Allstar Node 42033 444.9625 DMR (CC1) We're still doing some debugging, but everything appears to be working well thus far. We're running all repeaters on a single antenna and have quite a bit of loss in our filtering on RX and TX to make this happen. Check the details on the website for this. I've done a bit of testing on the 444.3750 and found it to cover up to Erlich road on the veterans, and am able to use the repeater from inside my house in St Pete Beach. I'd expect fill in coverage across the bay, with emphasis on sun city center where we have a null from Tampa now. This should cover all of Pinellas county from Clearwater to St Pete for HT coverage. Please give it try. I'll let Ryan talk in about the NXDN and DMR systems, as they will compliment nicely with the Tampa repeaters. As far as I know FSG has the only NXDN repeater in St Pete and one of the few in Tampa Bay. Program them in and give it a try. 73's -- Bryan Fields, W9CR Florida Simulcast Group, Inc.

https://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=133533 This is critical. Please upgrade your client radios ASAP. I've done the infrastructure, but can't telnet to a few of the clients. https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Upgrading_RouterOS#RouterOS_auto-upgr… Telnet in and run: /system package update check-for-updates once :delay 1s; :if ( [get status] = "New version is available") do={ install } -- Bryan Fields, W9CR Florida Simulcast Group, Inc.

St Pete repeater update
by Bryan Fields 23 Apr '18

23 Apr '18

https://imgur.com/gallery/e06xpiC Made some progress today working on the combining and duplexing system for St Pete on UHF. I'm working on the setup for the analog repeater and then will do some burn in on the system here. We're losing about 3.5 to 4.1 dB in the combiner/duplexer so worst case we'll be dissipating over 115 watts. I'm not going to hold out much hope for this to work excellent, but it should cover St Pete and south Pinellas well. If not it will be good until we can get another antenna up. 73's -- Bryan Fields, W9CR Florida Simulcast Group, Inc.
