Hi, I am a software engineer. Needed to simulate Amature Radio over VOIP. Below are my inquiries. My understanding of app_rpt, is Links Base Nodes, with other Base Nodes, with VOIP. Links Repeaters with Base Nodes, VOIP. I am not a hardware engineer, ok, so the repeater to Linux interface might need some hardware. So app_rpt manages that??? Same is for Base Nodes??? What is my problem here? I have to build a system where users communicate through their microphone head set, to the other receivers/transmitters (also on the computer), like emulating an Amateur Radio environment, through VOIP. Different users on different frequencies, all communicating with each other, Linked through a server like Asterisk. A typical VOIP conference call, though we have to provide frequencies like Amateur radio. Now the above problem can be done with Asterisk. But since app_rpt is for specially Amateur Radio environments, how can I use the functionality provided by app_rpt. app_rpt links the Base Nodes/Repeaters would it be useful as a server for managing users at their frequencies communicating, adding it's extra capability of linking nodes. I don't need the hardware support from this module, as I am using just a microphone head set. Any replies will be greatly appreciated. I have already been through a lot of research to reach to Asterisk first, then a client, then app_rpt. And the app_rpt site is very hardcore technical stuff. -- Regards, Babar Abbas.

node registration failure?

Hi all, I just fired up my test node and when I try to get a node list I get the following error when I turn verbose mode on.. /usr/bin/wget -v -O /var/lib/asterisk/rpt_extnodes-temp http://nodes1.allstarlink.org/cgi-bin/nodes.pl --2010-01-16 21:09:39-- http://nodes1.allstarlink.org/cgi-bin/nodes.pl Resolving nodes1.allstarlink.org... 64.62.228.97 Connecting to nodes1.allstarlink.org|64.62.228.97|:80... connected. HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 500 Internal Server Error 2010-01-16 21:09:40 ERROR 500: Internal Server Error. I have checked and my registration password is OK for node 27010... Connection problem

Hello to the group, It's been a while but am back the mailing list. I have a problem with version 0.210. I can not connect to anyone. I have port 4569 forwarded, the rpt_externode file is in tact with the right port numbers, 4569. I also have a Notice that say auto congestion call do to slow response. And last a Warning that say for waitstream_core: Unexpected control subclass '13'. Can anyone shed any light? Thanks Will / W4WWM

Disconnect messages

I used to get connect and disconnect messages when stations connected or disconnected.. Now I only get connect messages. Any idea what I might have changed to get this? Same in echolink, IRLP and allstar nodes. Thanks, Scott KB2EAR

Having install problems

I am trying to install the latest iso. I keep getting the following message: PXE-E53: no boot filename received Any ideas guys? I can run the Centos 5.4 live cd fine on the same pc with full network access Chuck K0XM

echolink offline?

I have added the config file for EchoLink and am receiving the messages about EchoLink server OK and directory download, on a regular basis. But the echolink.org status page shows my node as "off" (not offline, the QTH *is* being reported under the description column). If I try to connect to another on line echo link node using the 7 digit number, I get absolutely nothing. No messages from debug or verbose and the asterisk node says it is still in the repeat only mode. (yes I did port forwarding in my router for the asterisk computer IP address). I searched the knowledge base the mail archives for a while under the subject "echolink" but could not find any hints. Is there some online/offline switch for echolink? How can I trouble-shoot? Ken PS - is there a way to perform a search on the entire email archive?

drop outs and ping pong

Today I added a second node to my system and had my first inter-asterisk QSO. I found two problems which may, or may not, be related. first issue: During the QSO, there were a lot of drop outs (both ways apparently). These were accompanied by "Hungup..." messages on the console. I think these are not anything to do with audio or USB, but rather with the internet (parrot mode works fine, for example). I wonder what other people's experience is with this? Could it be something my ISP is doing to me (they are famous for this kind of thing). This happens in monitor-only mode too, and apparently it is noticeable on the other and as at some point when I was doing this a control operator came on and said my node was 'coughing' and then proceeded to disconnect me from his end. I hate to think I am screwing up other peoples systems by just listening to them. What to do? I noticed that there is a "drop count" parameter in IAX [from this I concluded that the inter-asterisk exchange protocol must have some end to end acknowleements ?] second issue: when I connect my first node to my second node on the same machine I get a ping-pong effect (or similar) where the first node keeps playing the courtesy tone (and PTT remains on continuously) and the second node drops the PTT but immediately keys up again. host name for DHCP

Does any linux guru out there know how to change the DHCP client name from TEST? I followed the instruction to use system-config-network and suceeded in changing the shell prompt to the host name I want, but my router still says the node name is TEST. Some internet searching came up with the "dhclient" command - which works - but after the next lease renewal it is back to TEST again. That name must be buried someplace in the linux configuration. Ken
