New version to test: Add connected node to number status screen. Mute transmitted audio while PTT not asserted. (This will work with nodes setup for VOX) Added exit to option menu. Slight change to keypad. Added keys A B C D. Version 1.6 We have built a early beta version of a Android IAXRPT Client. This is a simple Android app that will connect with a AllStar Asterisk node. Think IAXRPT for Android. It has a PTT button! <https://www.dropbox.com/s/3ey9u0tvtdedgh4/AndroVoIP.apk?dl=0> This is a early build. There are a lot of feature to add and I'm sure bugs. The client only supports ulaw at this time. For backspace use the virtual keyboard. Press Send to send commands and node numbers. There is only one account supported. To create an account, tap the Account button, Tap IAX2 No Account defined to open the account dialog. Hostname: FQDN or IP address of the server. Port: UDP default is 4569 Username: matching iax.conf stanza Password: matching iax.conf stanza CallerID: this can be displayed in Allmon and the AllStar node status page. Caller Number: not used yet. Save: Press to save account information. Press back button to go to main screen. Enter node number and press send. PTT bar will be white while connected to node red whie transmitting. Registration issues

Tonight I had a user tell me that one of my nodes wouldn't connect anywhere. Verified, rebooted the server, still nothing. Tried running the rc.updatenodelist script manually and it just sits there. However, after running the following command I do get an update and can now connect to other nodes. /usr/bin/wget -O /var/lib/asterisk/rpt_extnodeshttp://nodes1.allstarlink.org/cgi-bin/nodes.pl When I checked two other nodes they had the same problem and same work-around. I ran that same command for nodes2 and it works. When I run it for nodes3 it times out. Could a problem with nodes3.allstarlink.org be causing the rc.updatenodelist script to choke? And could that have been causing my nodes to not be able to connect to others?

Old/Incompatible Hardware??

In an effort to learn more about Asterisk/Allstar/App_rpt I built up a server out of some older hardware I had sitting around. I set up the package put together by Steve (N4IRS) located at: <https://github.com/N4IRS/AllStar/wiki/X86-Debian-Bare-Metal-Install> <https://github.com/N4IRS/AllStar/wiki/X86-Debian-Bare-Metal-Install> The install was pretty much hands off and nothing to indicate any problems. I edited the necessary files and have it up and running on my home network as a private node for testing. I have it setup using dahdi/pseudo at the moment until I get a USB Fob converted. I can connect to it with IAXRPT and Zoiper on an iPhone but that's where everything goes spiraling downward. As soon as either connects, asterisk plays the connect message, or at least tries to. It usually gets the words "Node, One, Five" out Ok but anything else starts to lag and stutter. Once it is through, it seems to settle down for a minute. When I transmit from either, audio is not passed to the other connected device. Sometimes, the courtesy tone will try to play. About 30 seconds after Tx'ing with Zoiper, it will throw up an error 18 (Request Timeout) and disconnect. The PC is a Pentium IV 2.4GHz with 3 GB of RAM. The Motherboard is a fairly old though. It is an early P4. The Motherboard is a Soyo sy-p4vda. Local LAN is 100 Mbps on a Cisco switch and all devices are on the same subnet. managing QSO recordings

The application from KF7DRV for managing all those recorded files is called Node Shark and is still around http://hkeithw.powweb.com/NodeShark/index.html On a related topic: I once read that, if you record the frequency transient that the guy's FM radio makes on key up, you can use that as evidence he was the source of the offending transmission - should you find him and there is any "discussion". Supposedly the exact way a rig's PLL locks up is almost as unique as a fingerprint. You would need to receive it on an SSB receiver and record the audio beat node on some high quality recorder (which could be a personal computer of course). You would set the receiver for USB and set it perhaps 1 kHz below the channel frequency. Of course he might use a crystal controlled rig ... that would make him pretty unique as well.... Hi. We have someone on the repeater doing multiple small tx on a random pattern (this can last 10 minute at a time) so all we ear is the telemetry of the repeater and it kind of get on the nerve of many. We did lower the audio level of the telemetry were we almost dont ear it, yet the bozo continu on tx ing short (less then a second) ptt.. We are building some DDDF ( digital Doppler direction finder) that will monitor the input freq of our 2 repeater and will logs the bearing of at least 4 of them on a central server with time stamps.. I need a way to extract from asterisk when someone do make a lots of short ptt and compare them to the logs from our DDDF. that way after some data collection we will see if the offender is on the move or mostly at the same place. and at the same time we will see if it is random or if there is some kind of pattern in time so that we will be able to find the offender and finally be done with it.. this been going on for years.. Anyone can point me ia way to extract such data from asterisk ? or find a way with action command to put that kind of stuff in a file? Thanks

RF linking repeaters allstar

I need to know the best route to rf link a repeater thats about 45 miles away into my allstar system.. At first i figured using an allstar node but i remember the iding issue any suggestions or idea? The old issue was the link node would id every 10 minutes i remember some thing along the lines of repeater would key up and just because the node radio was listening it would id.. So.. Is their a way to only id if the node radio transmits not when it is receiving etc.. also any thoughts on how to strip ids from the repeater that im connecting to? Pete M, Someone answered this earlier when he suggested the wav file recording feature 'archivedir' (rpt.conf). But it does a little more than just record the wav. The wav filename is time stamped but there is also text summary. This feature may provide what you are looking for. It is listed as undocumented at http://docs.allstarlink.org/drupal/node/73. But this HOW TO RECORD REPEATER TRAFFIC with archivedir. in rpt.conf insert: archivedir = /etc/asterisk/record ; defines file store path and enables activity monminblocks = 2048 ; Min 1K blocks to be left on partition (will not save monitor output if disk too full) It does create the wav files (ex: 20150929214712.WAV), but it also creates a text file with date/time stamp (ex: 20150929.txt). The app will create a node number directory below /etc/asterisk/record. You can record these files in any directory you choose. FreeDV over AllStar?

What is the viability of using FreeDV over the AllStar link network, or maybe an AllStar backbone? First, does codec2 (which is what freestar uses) work on FM? What would be the bandwidth requirements, discriminator required? , narrowband etc..... Second, how hard would it be to develop something where analog and FreeDV users can talk to each other through the network? I think it is the time to make a move on open source, experimental encouraging, digital. Any thoughts / comments on FreeDV in general or any other digital modes? 73 Skyler KD0WHB

Parsing log for short ptt.

I have an allstar system and we have a guy that pump the repeater from time to time. Would there be a way to parse the log of asterisk to know what is the pattern of the short ptt? We want to know if it is random or not. Anyone can help?
