AllStarLink Personnel Update

Just want to update you on the status of personnel at AllStarLink, Inc. Things normally fluctuate in a volunteer group and we want to keep everyone up to date as to what is happening. Todd Lesser - KM6RPT has joined the board. Todd is a new ham with a strong interest in Allstar. He was friends with and worked professionally with Jim Dixon for almost 30 years. He was part of the development team on the Zapata Telephony project that created the technology that Allstar uses. Tim Sawyer - WD6AWP has rejoined the board after a short absence. Tim is a repeater owner and developer of Allmon. Bryan Fields - W9CR has chosen to leave the board. Bryan will remain a key developer of AllStarLink infrastructure. Pete Elke - WI6H is a current member of the AllStarLink board. Pete brings management and communications skills to the board. Kevin Custer - W3KKC remains on the board. Kevin is the founder of repeater-builder.com <http://repeaterbuilder.com/> and is active with the WAN repeater system. Dave Shaw - WB6WTM has accepted the role of treasurer. Dave recently served as a Director and Treasurer for NARCC (The Northern California Repeater Coordination Council). -- Tim WD6AWP

Just a small point, as with other forms of technical support a well written and information rich message will do more to help both you and those helping you than poorly laid out and written messages lacking detail. As for today's ongoing discussion you referenced, there is much more background than may be visible at face value. Most of the tension stems from a small group of developers who basically forked the project a while back and continue to maintain a closed source repository of their code. General consensus is that the GNU GPL v2 license, under which Asterisk is distributed, requires their code to be open-sourced, yet they have publicly refused to do so. A quick search of the internet will bring up many more discussions on that topic as well as claims of other questionable activities by those developers. As for some of the other replies to the thread, unfortunately this list is a reflection of the greater world of amateur radio, and similarly has the same broad spectrum of personalities. Brett KQ9N

Walt/Steve, Unless you're in it for the drama, I'd run away as fast as possible and never look back. I've been here since April or so and it's constant sniping followed by full frontal attacks. Then it calms down for a minute before it starts all over again. Whatever floats your boat, Bryan. I'm not a software developer, but I'm also not a jerk. You are, in my opinion, more of the latter than you are the former. If you don't like me, kick my nodes off your servers. I don't care anymore. ASL is not worth putting up with your prima-donna attitude. You guys are a running joke in much of the rest of the ham radio community; too bad it's not funny to those of us stuck in the middle. If you're worried about the demise of ham radio, try looking in the mirror...and maybe go to confession. I've never done anything to you except disagree with you and you've treated me like crap here and elsewhere. At this point, whether you are right or wrong is immaterial. Bryan, Nate, Mark, Thanks for the help! Yep, the lack of a path preceding the timestamp file was my problem! I found an /asd.dat file in the root directory that had a bunch of entries in it! The DTMF to script line was working days ago, but the script was putting the data where I was not looking. I also found one in /root/asd.dat > 714 = cmd,/etc/asterisk/ab.sh ; has been putting date-time in /asd.dat, not /etc/asterisk/ast.dat I also found that when I ran it from CLI> !/etc/asterisk/ab.sh ; it was putting the stamps in /root/asd.dat. CLI> !pwd returns /root. But the script worked when I was linux prompt and #cd /etc/asterisk then #./ab.sh ;because I was in that working directory... now it all makes sense! THE SKY OPENED UP, THE SUN SHOWN FROM ABOVE, ANGELS SANG! I SEE THE LIGHT! Issuses with running bash scripts from within allstar by DTMF. Host is X86 type, I'm logged in as root, file permissions set to 777 for both ab.sh and asd.dat. it works from linux cli, partially works from asterisk cli, !/path/script, and does not work from within rpt.conf. 713=cmd,/path/script. Running asterisk version 0.327 installed about a month ago from iso file. So story begins... This simple script prints 1234, prints the time/date and appends the time and date onto file asd.dat. /etc/asterisk$ cat script: ab.sh #!/bin/bash echo 1234 date date >> asd.dat Script runs as it should from the command line of a linux console window /etc/asterisk$ ./ab.sh 1234 Mon Oct 22 22:05:22 EDT 2018 * Note the time ^^^ Now to check the file and find 05:22: cat asd.dat Mon Oct 22 22:05:05 EDT 2018 Mon Oct 22 22:05:22 EDT 2018 <yay it worked But from within Asterisk CLI it only works 1/2 way: *CLI> !/etc/asterisk/ab.sh 1234 Mon Oct 22 22:11:44 EDT 2018 * Note the time ^^^ 6 minutes later, It printed within the asterisk CLI, but did not append to the file. cat asd.dat Mon Oct 22 22:05:05 EDT 2018 Mon Oct 22 22:05:22 EDT 2018 < still the old time in the file. not 11:44, so run from asterisk CLI does not let script update the file?? To me, we all talk about things that are not exactly relevant to the 'GROUP' I always feel that you have 3 messages to clean your pipes. We are well past that point. If you have grievances greater than you can conduct in that space, take it to the courts, social media or your own website. We have herd all of the points at least once. What is left to achieve. Gentleman, please be gentleman and do not make 'the group' suffer. Get your messages on point of help in progression of app_rpt ! Or directly message each other.
