This probably explains why I never experienced this. I never use the mic input with a URI as I like to send the pre-emphasized and limited audio directly to the modulator. This works quite well as long as you have a a transmitter using direct FM and not phase modulation. Steve WA6ZFT ******************************************************************** I find the term 'rxdemod=flat' a little confusing, since discriminator audio will contain pre-emphasized audio, generated by a user's transmitter. I assume that apt_rpt converts receive audio to 'flat' by de-emphasizing discriminator audio but not 'speaker' audio, (as selected) prior to presenting it to other nodes or to the transmitter software routines? I'm also guessing that the apt_rpt internal flat audio, generated as above or from other nodes/Iaxrpt, feeds the radio transmit software module, where it is treated as per the 'txprelim' switch before going to the analog interface. I hope I'm not the only one that wondered about the precise functioning of the usbradio.conf audio selections and how they operate. If I am, it's worth a beer. Snippet from usbradio.conf.sample: rxdemod=flat ; Rx Audio Source Type from Radio ; Options = no, flat, speaker ; no - RX audio input not used ; flat - source is un-filtered discriminator signal ; speaker - source is filtered, de-emphasized audio txprelim=yes ; Tx Audio PreEmphasis and Limiting in software ; no - Audio is not pre-emphasized and limited. ; for application to radio microphone input ; yes - Audio is pre-emphasized, limited and filtered ; for direct connection to an FM modulator I second Ken's motion to clarify the wording a little, next time you're revising the file. 73, Dave VE7MQ.

Transmit or receive? so you see the distortion on the TX line or RX line if you look with a scope? You might be able to determine where it is getting distored by connecting your node to a working node you can monitor, then send audio both ways. Steve WA6ZFT Steve: Thank you for your response. Much appreciated. This distortion also appears when accessing the transmitter digitally via Iaxrpt with no radio receivers involved. Ditto for when my node is connected elsewhere, such as Calnet. The problem is entirely on transmit, somewhere in the route from apt_rpt internals to the MICOR exciter audio input. The receive audio is perfect. I have two independent nodes on separate computers. I followed your suggestion and linked them together. Using a service monitor, I fed 1 KHz tones at various deviations into the receiver of Node A and monitored the transmit output of problem Node B. There is no distortion until reaching 4 KHz. At 5 KHz deviation, there is serious distortion of the sine wave. I want to emphasize that this problem remains constant no matter if the modulation source originates in a radio receiver, another node or Iaxrpt. As Ken mentioned earlier, adjusting txvoice moves the deviation up and down but has no effect upon the distortion. FWIW, the distortion (on voice) sounds like listening to a loudspeaker with a ripped cone. After reading Ken's last post, I tried 'txprelim=yes' and it was a great improvement. It would be nice if the limiting could be selected independently. To summarize: it seems that with 'txprelim=no', audio from a receiver seeing 5 KHz peaks or the equivalent from Iaxrpt or from other nodes, is going to be distorted by the URI being overdriven. Unfortunately, the distortion strikes right at the deviation level that most users hit regularly. I am not using the DMK product. I understand it's a very professional unit. I would check and see if you have already or need dc blocking between the URI and the mic input as the mic input most likely has dc bias for the mic cartridge... the URI does NOT like DC back fed. There are DC blocked inputs and outputs on the other row of pins.. I found that DC was an issue on most radios I am hooking to on both the TX and RX sides... It causes the audio to get unsymetrical...IN general I use those pins as they are capacitively coupled and most my issues like you are indicating.. stopped.. YMMV Just a thought to check... The MICOR does indeed have such bias but I removed it by uninstalling the supply resistor in the exciter (ref: repeater-builder.com) My URI (modified FOB, not DMK) also has a blocking capacitor. (Asterisk version 0.208) Struggling with a new DMK URI and first time use of asterisk, in a test setup with an HT as the audio source. My conclusion is that Asterisk needs to have the CTCSS present no matter what? Settings are: carrierfrom=usbinvert ctcssfrom=no rxdemod=speaker txprelim=no txtoctype=notone ; no - CTCSS tone encoding with no hang time It took me a while to figure out that "invert" means that the COR relay is closed when the signal appears (I would have thought this was not-invert). My tests show that the repeater function does not key up unless both the COR and CTCSS are present. One, or the other, does not do it. This is not what I expected when I selected "no" for the "ctcssfrom" parameter. On the other hand, even when you select 'no" for the "txctcss" it still transmits a tone, so maybe it is consistent. Second issue: The loudest playback sounds cause the URI to go into saturation and distort. Thanks for heads-up Clint! I was planning the same thing for IRLP, but now I am glad that I joined the Allstar Link instead. That is EXACTLY why I went with app-rpt! (to get away from proprietary hardware/software). With the excellent documentation on qrvc.com, and some google searches, I had my app-rpt system up very quickly! My DMK usb interface works flawlessly! I plan to pull all of my hardware repeater interfaces (RLC) and go with app-rpt/DMK 100% Thanks also to everyone in this group for tips and tricks and for keeping Amateur Radio alive! Hello Folks, I was excited to get channel-IRLP running on my node, but was shut down by IRLP admin. Thought I would let you all know. Maybe the best bet is to stay away from IRLP? or order the IRLP board get online and swap software, but thats not what Dave wants I bet! Has anyone else got this response (his email below)? I'm very new to app-rtp so this might have already been brought up. Is there a way to concatenate audio files ? For example my call sign is the combination of the following GSM files phonetic/k_p.gsm phonetic/e_p.gsm digits/2.gsm phonetic/n_p.gsm how to you put this into idrecording ? or a playback ? Thanks
