Registration issues

Tonight I had a user tell me that one of my nodes wouldn't connect anywhere. Verified, rebooted the server, still nothing. Tried running the rc.updatenodelist script manually and it just sits there. However, after running the following command I do get an update and can now connect to other nodes. /usr/bin/wget -O /var/lib/asterisk/rpt_extnodeshttp://nodes1.allstarlink.org/cgi-bin/nodes.pl When I checked two other nodes they had the same problem and same work-around. I ran that same command for nodes2 and it works. When I run it for nodes3 it times out. Could a problem with nodes3.allstarlink.org be causing the rc.updatenodelist script to choke? And could that have been causing my nodes to not be able to connect to others?

Or will they work? I remember reading they worked on old versions of apt_rpt I also figure they may be a better option than USB but relatively rare/expensive. AllStar Asterisk on a Raspberry Pi 2

Just a note to let people know that we have AllStar Asterisk running on the new Raspberry Pi 2. Right now it's in alpha test. I can report that it works great. No USB or network issues. Audio is clean and sounding good. CPU utilization is very low. Right now, we are using chan_simpleusb, but we will be testing chan_usbradio soon. We will continue to support the Pi 1, Odroid and the BBB Debian platforms for the foreseeable future. Any enhancements that can be back ported to the older platforms will be. If all goes well, we will proceed to Beta test on Sunday March 1st. James, First it should be said that sometimes the result may be from more than one problem. >From what you have shared, it is still very hard to pinpoint a single problem but I might mention a few potential ones... If you are not totally in tune with asterisk dial plan protocol, I would suggest not using 70 for your interactive menu (or anything else 7x) while you have other extensions that are 7xxxx & 7xxxxx unless you are sure you can define the sort order for asterisk to find the extension (via context or other scheme) or it is not possible for the longer extensions to be 70xx or 70xxx. Asterisk will always take the first match it finds. Perhaps you have considered and compensated for this. Thought I would mention it. Without seeing your whole dial plan, I can't say it is a problem, just a potential one to look for. The audio problem sounds like it may be that the pi is running out of headroom or cpu cycles to process it during the event. Possible some other process may be soaking up either or both resources during the event to create the error. Use of a bridge

Hello, I understand this is a touchy subject, and there are a LOT of issues about cross linking AllStar and IRLP but I have a special case/problem I am trying to solve. I am net control of the Amateur Satellite which I air from a link system in Colorado to the East Coast IRLP reflector, which until a month ago had AllStar 27339. The node has been down for some reason, but I still *have permission *to use the IRLP reflector with AllStar because of special permission from dave cameron for IRLP 9050 to have AllStar and my net is Scheduled there. Everyone on 9050 is missing the net and are like "What happened to it"? Does anybody know about or have any bridges they would be willing to let me use for my net? Voting Advice

I find myself in uncharted territory. We have initially setup a RTCM and are considering adding a second site that better covers our intended area. This means simulcasting or voting. I understand that repeaters are equipped with RTCM’s, GPS units, and properly tuned for frequency. The repeaters are Motorola MSF’s. Gotta love them!!! I further understand that Allstar itself does what it can to time packets. My questions is this. In such a congested area as the L.A. market it is difficult not to cover a large geographic area. Our primary repeater is at 6,300 feet and does just that but it misses some key areas. Thus a second repeater on a hilltop with excellent coverage as well. The overlap is considerable. In voting what am I looking at? Turning the power down on each unit to minimize the overlapping wha-wha? I’ve tried antenna adjusting (in Radio Mobile Virtual Mapping) and cannot find a change that has any affect. Do we turn the power way down on each repeater? Hand-held’s will suffer. The same with our mountain repeater that needs the umph to get in and out of the canyons. Damn. What a catch-22. This may not be doable without a second pair that isn’t likely to happen. What advice would you give those of us trying real hard to learn on the job? We’ve got an excellent team of hams but voting is new to us.

Strange RTCM Behavior

Hello All, We have a two site Voted Simulcast consisting of 2 UHF Motorola Quantars, Thunderbolts, and 2 RTCM's. Master site is North, secondary Voter/TX site is West. Recently I have noticed significant choppy audio, mostly absent a PL, being transmitted from the West Site. It appears the repeater is keying/dekeying a couple times a second. On the West RTCM console I see: 02/27/2015 00:23:15.592 Inbound (Eth Rx) packet out of bounds by: -60 02/27/2015 00:23:25.532 Inbound (Eth Rx) packet out of bounds by: -60 02/27/2015 00:23:35.532 Inbound (Eth Rx) packet out of bounds by: -60 Physical link between the sites is over a Ubiquiti 5GHz link, then fiber. IPSEC end to end. Voter Ping output is below. PING (West): Packets tx: 100, rx: 100, oos: 0, Avg.: 13.940 ms PING (West): Worst: 22 ms, Best: 7 ms, 100.0% Packets successfully received (0.0% loss) Standard ping between Voter and West RTCM: 3297 packets transmitted, 3293 received, 0% packet loss, time 3297289ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 2.953/4.166/111.124/3.812 ms TX/RX buffers are 250ms. When I restart the West RTCM, the symptoms resolve for a hour or so, then begin to occur again. System was previously functioning normally. Only change has been from ADSL to fiber at the North site. West site was down for 2-3 weeks while the line was switched, so I can't absolutely correlate this issue to the connection change. Pings when the issue is occurring look good (<10ms voter to West RTCM) Any ideas? Thanks, Caleb
