best board/embedded computer for home node?

I am going to an allstarlink node and know that the Beagleboard-xM and Beaglebone Black are in use currently with nodes. However, I saw the new Raspberry Pi 2 announcement today, it’s a quad core ARM v7 chip, 1 gb RAM, and still $35. What would be people’s recommendation to make my first node with an embedded type system for home experimentation? Thanks, James AB2WS

Yes, VoIP over satellite really is viable. Technology has definitely changed over the past 10 years, some of the satellites actually have the router / switch built-in which helps a lot. So far we haven't had anyone mention "the 30 minute delay" where the connection would disappear and then come back right at the point where it left off. Both of the primary satellite ISPs (HughesNet and Viasat Exede) offer IP Phone services, if VoIP wasn't viable I doubt they would want the additional support headaches to deal with. There's still the problem with inbound traffic being blocked when there's no client initiated connection (another PBX / RF Gateway or proxy takes care of this problem though). Asterisk RF Gateway via Satellite

Hello App_Rpt Group, currently using Viasat's Exede for Internet services and need to find out how to set up a Asterisk RF Gateway proxy in order to alleviate the inbound connection problem (outbound initiated connections work great, inbound connections never make it past the NOC firewall). Would setting up a couple of private nodes at a server farm be beneficial? Thank You in advance. Mars - N0PCO

Well iax re-registers once a minute and there is tons of status traffic outbound on a busy node. You could just stay connected (permanan connect) to some outside hub and tell people to connect to you there. Then if you want to go private you can connect directly to them. I am sure there are plenty of nodes that would allow you to do that. HP5740e Thin Client Loading Lock-Up: Update 1

Here is what was discovered so far: Subbing a SATA SSD for the 4GB Flash Drive did not help. Getting the latest CentOS ISO image did not help. Did not try expanding RAM. Debugging was done by pressing “I" after the CentOS started loading and typing “N" for the CPUSPEEDADJ allowed loading of ACID. This particular HP TC needs a slight tweak to the kernel and re-compiling. More later on Update 2. 73 Chris / K7AZ Node 29275 & Others

ECHO Echo echo ...

Weirdness sat in yesterday evening... and even after everything was powered off, unplugged, connections tightened, wires checked and rechecked, computer was 'shutdown -h now', unplugged, caps drained, etc... restarted everything and all seemed cool, locally. So, I have 29655 (UHF repeater, usbradio; no-dsp), 29656 (echolink - no hardware) and 29657 (vhf simplex node, TMV-7a using the packet port, 9600-baud [discriminator audio], ctcss from DSP) and all of a sudden, the 2m node went ballistic. Did the resets, made sure the node was on the right frequency, etc, and again, this morning, there was 'echoing' every time the 2m node was unkeyed. Sounded like acoustical feedback. Weirdness! so... (on uhf) *129657. Have a friend on the other side of town - 2 systems linked together. Dialed the uhf node to friends node. Dialed the vhf rig to the same node ... no echo. I let it stay like that about a half hour and just now, on vhf disconnected from my friends link, and reconnected 29657 (vhf simplex node) to 29655 (uhf repeater - both nodes on same computer) and ... NO ECHO. Why? -Geoff/W5OMR

LOX and RTCM sale.

Hi everyone. During the past week I had an RTCM and a DMK LOX board up for sale. The RTCM has been sold and I circulated an E-mail via this group on Friday ( Australian time ) letting you all know, but it seems that it did not get distributed and people are still asking about it.
