Portable Nodes: Just to be sure I'm on the right track
by Buddy Brannan 20 Dec '16

20 Dec '16

Hi, For those of you who have set up portable nodes, and used them portable, say, at hotels, on cellular connections, and such as that... First, thanks Peter, G7RPG, for building a portable node for me. Putting the hardware together would have proved...a challenge...without your assistance. Now the fun begins. Since this node will not be on one specific network, and likely as not will be behind a NAT I can't control (as in while on a cellular connection), I at first thought I might have to set up a VPN and use that. Either on the Asterisk box at home, or, as seemed better, on my router, which has dd-wrt on it. But then I remembered this page: https://allstarlink.org/proxy.html This sounds like a bit less of a bear to set up, if I understand it right. Any gotchas that I should look out for? Will I have trouble using this on the same router as my regular All Star node while I'm at home? Not that I'd have a real reason to, apart from for testing of course, and just for that reason I reckon I'd change to run on a different port. No big deal either way, I'll probably connect to my mobile when it's time to make sure that setting up the proxy works anyway. -- Buddy Brannan, KB5ELV - Erie, PA Phone: 814-860-3194 Mobile: 814-431-0962 Email: buddy(a)brannan.name

I have configured allmon2 several times for a standard node setup, but I am having trouble with the github instructions for voting. I don't see a voter.ini.txt located in the allmon directory, where do I add my voter details on allmon2? 73 Skyler KD0WHB

Anyone building portable nodes?
by Buddy Brannan 17 Dec '16

17 Dec '16

Howdy, Just wondering if anyone's building portable node hardware. Raspberry Pi III or similar, with a URI or RIM basic or such plus low power radio (even Baofeng BF888S or such). I've seen the Micronode thingies, but I don't really need or want a touch screen, ssh works fine for me, and I'm OK with installing and configuring. What I'm definitely not really great with is modifying radios and playing with hot soldering irons in teeny tiny places. Really just need a bunch of hardware put together. Auto Start Node
by Chris Viningre 06 Dec '16

06 Dec '16

I'm tring to setup an auto start to another node when rebooting. I found some commands that worked but my files got overwritten when I did a nodesetup and downloaded new files from allstar. I did a search and found codes for Allstar Permanent Node Connection. This doesnt seem to work for me. I'm sure a mistake on my end. I'm using a laptop running Dial software. Thanks for any help. -- Chris Viningre 70 W. Podcast Server
by Danny 02 Dec '16

02 Dec '16

Hi, I have setup a server that plays Amateur Radio related podcasts, I call it "Play Something". Every time a request is recieved (via e-mail) by a (registered) callsign, the system plays one of these podcasts to all connected nodes. This is for all to use. Some of the podcasts are: Everything Ham Radio QSO Today This week in Amateur Radio Foundations of Amateur Radio Ted Randall and many more ... To register for this do the following: Send mail to:allstar44081@gmail.com The "Subject" should only contain the word "Register" The "Body" should contain the following "??CALLSIGN:E-MAIL_ADDRESS:A_PASSWORD??" Note the "??" at the start and end and the ":" in between. Nothing else should be in the body. After you have registered you will receive a replay instructing you on how to use the system. One caveat, Apple iPhones do not translate/parse/send "Subject" lines according to mail standards. So please use any other means to register. Thank you Danny ZS6XOX AllStar 44081 EchoLink ZS6XOX-R 73's
