Hooking up a TS-480 as a remote base.

Anyone attempted this particular combo? Any pointers, or thoughts? Just brought one up on the HF side of the house, and, ruminating over how to interface, how to control, how to...in general. I also picked up the 'remoterig' hardware solution, which I haven't explored getting going yet, but, since the 480 does have a separate faceplate, it seemed the best way of going to have a remote in my office via the 4G hotspot on my system here through a wireless bridge etc. Indecision about the best way to have access to my HF rig back at the house is the key to flexibility...:) I'll crawl back in the hole now... -- Bryan In this world, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant. Remote Base information

I had an Allstarlink Remote Base for a short time using a Yaesu FT-897, URI and a small fanless Linux box. Worked great on VHF/UHF but my personal experience in attempting to tune SSB from a keypad was an exercise in frustration. Strong signals weren't so much of a problem but weak signals or those slightly off frequency from a HF traffic net were. Not all functions of the radio are available via CAT commands which was a major problem for me. There are Allstar stanzas available for controlling the FT-897 specifically but I'm sure it could be done with other radios as well. Do a Google search on Ham Radio via the Internet and it will turn up many different ways to approach the problem. Some require additional hardware, some work without a PC involved at all. W4MQ.COM and Glentekcorp.com are two that popped up for me. At least one solution I've seen uses two interface boxes that connect the faceplate of a radios such as a Yaesu FT-857 to the radio via the Internet, all functions available from the front panel then become available as the control panel is right in front of you while the radio is somewhere remote. Audio in both directions is passed and no computer interface is used. This negates of course the radio being able to be used by multiple users unless they each had a radio control head and some way to identify who was connected when. Wayne node 28146

remote base question.

Like if I did not had enough to do , my club is talking about making a remote base, for the club members, that can’t have HF antenna at home, from our repeater site.. (large and tall building downtown Montreal) When I say I have enough, someone is asking me to take my homebrew dstar repeater full blown on a montain top with a msf5000 as the work horse..Now that will be fun... ;-). And the club members cant wait that I install the allstarlink link on our vhf and uhf repeater... So About the remote base, since we will have a server with 2 node at the repeater site, why not use a third node for the remote base.. For the repeaters I am all ok, but for the remote base, now I am in search of information. what would a user been able to do with a node setup as a remote base?? what radio would be a good fit for lets say 160 to 10 meter opearation?? Anyone with hand on experience can provide some good input? I had for some time my own remote base at home ( I travel a lot and like to operate from the hotel where I stay while traveling for work..) But I am using HRD to remote control a IC-706MKIIG connected to a dual band V-U antenna on the high freq output and an DX-LB+ for the HF.. for transmiting audio I am using team speak running on vox on the radio side and I use a PTT at the computer side, its working ok, but I dont think this would be a good setup in a club... Connection Timer?

Noisy Sound FOBS

Hey guys, I just got in some really cheap CM108 type sound FOB's from China, they work, I use the DSP for COR and CTCSS with the DB25 pins for ptt. However, I am hearing some really noisy sound when I access this node. I setup a DMK URI on the same node, no noise. Has anyone encountered this before? Is it the cheap sound FOB's or is there something else I need to do. I have my audio voitage divider feeding the RX Input, I have that fed by a 10uf cap. No DC bias on the chip. I am feeding the FOB with a VHF Maxtrac 300 discriminator audio, JU551 in position A. plenty of audio, PL detect and COR is very reliable. I use this as a RX only node. A very simple hardware configuration. Any ideas? Ron Simpson, N6GKJ Amateur Radio ................... That works with "status" commands, i.e., * 1 - Force ID (global) * 2 - Give Time of Day (global) * 3 - Give software Version (global) * 4 - Give GPS location info * 5 - Last (dtmf) user * 11 - Force ID (local only) * 12 - Give Time of Day (local only) because there are two commands defined for the time/ID functions (local or global). But the question remains how to do that with "ilink" commands, which are what do the standard "70" and "73" DTMF commands. There don't seem to be different local/global ilink commands for "system status" and "full system status". * 5 - System status * 15 - Full system status (all nodes) Maybe there's a way to "turn off" the propagation before the command and turn it back on after it's done?
