Zaptel timer problem after bootup - 5 minute delay

Still working on getting a new system running... When I reboot the server, asterisk exits and restarts every 3-4 seconds for 5 minutes. The error message is : "Asterisk has detected a problem with your Zaptel configuration and will shutdown for your protection. You have options: You only have to compile Zaptel support into Asterisk if you need it. One option is to recompile without Zaptel support. You only have to load Zaptel drivers if you want to take advantage of Zaptel services. One option is to unload zaptel modules if you don't need them. If you need Zaptel services, you must correctly configure Zaptel." This message is coming from asterisk.c which is attempting to open /dev/zap/timer using ast_wait_for_input() with a 3 second timeout. The function is returning zero for almost exactly five minutes, when it finally returns non-zero and asterisk starts up. Any ideas on what's going on here? Other potential clues: all the /dev/zap/* entries are owned by root, but the udev zap configuration seems to imply they should be owned by asterisk. There is no asterisk user or group on the system. There is no /dev/zap/transcode entry.

connect problem

Been having a problem with one end of a nailed up pair: My end here in Texas(node 1998) stops being connected to the remote end in NJ(node 1999). I get this error message on the 1998 end: chan_iax2.c:4071 __auto_congest: Auto-congesting call due to slow response I can ping the other end(1999), ssh into it, etc. But this end (1998) just refuses to connect. I can iaxrpt into the NJ end (1999)just fine from the same network here in Texas, I can echolink into it. But the end here(1998) just won't connect to it. Any thoughts? Access to web transceiver

HI I have found that several of users here are having trouble getting the web transceiver to connect to some of our nodes. It appears to be a router problem at the users end. WE are only concluding this as if the user puts his PC into the DMZ then can now get the web transceiver to connect. Anyone have an idea what might be the issue? I know ports 4569 must be open for nodes behind a nat router but this shouldn't be a problem with the web transceiver right? Thanks, Jon VA3RQ

after offline for 3 weeks no longer active

hi all, i moved my qth and my node to my new location, so the pc was 3 weeks offline. after installing and configurating everything new the node doesn`t connect to the allstarlink network anymore :-( i can connect to the portal and the status is active but is is not listet as online Nodenr: 28175 / Call:DM0RDT What i have to do now ? VirtualBox choppy audio

Testing out some stuff with the allstar ACID / CentOS 5.8 install inside VirtualBox. Setup passthrough for unmodified USB audio device (0d8c:000c CMedia dongle). No matter what combination of options or how many resources i throw at the guest system, i get VERY choppy audio out of the USB device. Audio on the IP side of the virtual machine is perfect. The host machine is 8 core 16 gigs ram. CPU usage is very low on both. There are tons of googles about choppy usb audio in virtualbox for a few years now with no clear fix. Im curious has anyone run into this problem on virtualbox or any other VM, and if so were they able to find a fix? dave

Another remote base question

I have been working on a single channel remote base as well recently. I am just using a maxtrac that is on a vhf repeater channel as a user. I may have my configuration wrong because one of the problems I am having is the remote base will not go into transmit until the receive signal on the link radio drops. I have always understood a remote base to transmit when needed even it was receiving something. I guess what I am trying to say is I shouldn't need to wait for the link radio's receiver to drop before I start transmitting on another node. Another thing I notice is, it will transmit the connection announcement out the link radio when I connected to it from another node. I don't think it should be doing this... Can someone give me a hint as to what I can look at to see if I have something wrong. I would put my configuration in this email but I don't have access to it right now. I have wanted to send this email for about a week now and figured I had better ask now before I forget again. Corey N3FE

Remote Base Questions

Good Afternoon, I'm relatively new to asterisk and app_rpt and see a lot of uses for it. I recently started playing around with ACID on an old computer I have. I have no radio hardware hooked up yet but have been using iaxrpt and hub nodes to experiment and am learning a lot. Since I've got my feet wet I'm now planning a project with two nodes, most likely using a Piconode. One node will be a repeater, the other a remote base. The plan being to connect the two and control the base through the repeater. Instead of a remote base node I am thinking of setting the second as a simplex node. I will be using a Kenwood TM-V71a as the transceiver and am going to write my own control scripts for changing channels, data band side, and other settings. Other than parameter control, which is covered, and login/security, which I don't need, would there be any other advantages of setting it as a remote base node? I guess I haven't really seen info on it, but can another node even connect to a remote base node? That might answer my question right there. My second question is for the repeater node. Is there any way to have two different Rx Active 'states'? One which uses CSQ and only keys the local node, and the other uses CTCSS to key as usual? The reason I ask is if the two nodes are connected and you key the repeater to send DTMF command codes you would also key up the transceiver. I'd also like to be able to use the repeater locally without transmitting on the transceiver but keep it connected. I know I could change it to monitor, but that would still include keying it when sending the command. Thanks, Brett KQ9N

Someone said running AllStar on a Mac would be like seeing Elvis. Ha! With help from several of you, I have a great little node running AllStar on my Mac. I think Elvis would approve! My configuration: Mac mini - 2GB RAM, Snow Leopard running AllStar in a Parallels Virtual Machine Alinco DR-135 2M radio (with 9 pin data port) DMK - URI (http://www.dmkeng.com/URI_Order_Page.htm) URI Cable from Marshall Oldman (http://www.uricables.com/) Powerex 30 Amp Switching Power Supply The system has a small footprint, it is quiet and does't need a keyboard, mouse or monitor because I can use Mac screen sharing to log on to the Mini from my iMac. When I hooked the cables up I didn't even need to tune the radio interface - it worked great out of the box. I only had a few small changes to the usbradio.conf file and it started working. The audio is exceptionally clear. I have connected several nodes simultaneously with participants using the web transceiver and RF. I want to thank everyone,especially Jim Dixon for this great system! I have only been a Ham for a couple of months and I learned a lot putting this together. Have great day! Asterisk for Remote???

APP_RPT Group, Thinking about setting up a remote site at the cabin where I have my contest radios, towers, etc. Currently have IPCop VPN's setup from home and the office to the cabin.
