Tonight I had a user tell me that one of my nodes wouldn't connect anywhere. Verified, rebooted the server, still nothing. Tried running the rc.updatenodelist script manually and it just sits there. However, after running the following command I do get an update and can now connect to other nodes. /usr/bin/wget -O /var/lib/asterisk/rpt_extnodeshttp://nodes1.allstarlink.org/cgi-bin/nodes.pl When I checked two other nodes they had the same problem and same work-around. I ran that same command for nodes2 and it works. When I run it for nodes3 it times out. Could a problem with nodes3.allstarlink.org be causing the rc.updatenodelist script to choke? And could that have been causing my nodes to not be able to connect to others?

Echo-stink

I've found the 'permit=w1aw,w5yi,etc' line in the echolink.conf only allows for 29 allowed calls. Any more than 30 entries in the list prevents incoming requests on or not on the list access to the node. Short of checking for typo's, using a backslash\ to continue to the next line, or adding another 'permit= line' hasn't proved any results. ???

Using an Intermediate Repeater

I have finally ordered our first of four RTCM's - progress! We are having difficulty getting wi-fi to our remote repeater site. I am wondering if we may do the following: Our repeater is VHF. We have a 900MHz full duplex link pair. W4e have a RC-210 controller controlling the repeater and the 900MHz is on port 3. Can we wire the RTCM to a full duplex (or even semi-duplex) transceiver to get Allstar to the VHF machine? Thank you.

Ok, so here is the latest. I discovered that the port # (which I did change earlier) is not updating on the rpt_extnodes file. It still shows 14569. On the local node 27976, it does show the correct node port # as registered in the rpt_extnodes file, so I went ant took another one my nodes and try to see what it shows and it also shows the wrong port #. So I think there is something going on with the allstar server. Unless I am missing something here, I think this might require Jim or an admin to take a look? Or does this only update every few hours now? I thought it was like every 15 minutes or so? But I would have thought that upon registration, the file on the allstar server would update immediately and then all the nodes would grab the file every 15-30 minutes or so.. If someone could confirm. Port # found in /var/lib/asterisk/rpt_extnodes is assigned by the allstarlink.org config's not what is configured on your server and router. It would be nice if when the registration sent from the node would include the port # used. This would keep things updated immediately, and save extra steps in the process. It's like doing the same step twice. Registration issue?

Just checking as I am having registration issues once again. This happened about a year ago and it cleared up. If I do the following, I notice that I am getting rejected. Send 3khz tone

HI, I want to do some testing with a service moniter on TX by sending a 3khz tone. The problem about the one on the radio tune menu is that they are too short pulses. "When I set my repeater up I used the automated method with a calibrated service monitor. I noticed it called for 3 kHz of audio. Finally got the repeater on the air and the audio is a little soft compared what I'm used to. I know I can adjust it but I assume this is done for a reason to keep all of the repeaters sounding close to each other. Any thoughts?" The calibration routine gives you a test audio level that corresponds to 3 kHz deviation. Full scale deviation will be 5 kHz. The lower level is used (I imagine) to avoid running up against any limiter effect during that calibration step. If you really need more deviation then adjust for more than 3 at that step in the procedure. Of course, then you will get more than 5 on peaks. This is the case when you are feeding the audio right into the modulator stage. If you are using "mic audio" then the limiter built into in your transmit radio will be affecting the deviation of the transmitted audio. You need to find and adjust that. Or inject the audio in a different place where the radio's limiter does not take effect. 73/GL Ken KE2N

The diode rectifies the noise to produce the RSSI.
