Hello , I have two kenwood TK-706D radios how do I make a cable to hook them to a usb fob. I would like to make a back yard repater for the cottage also a friend I mine about 5 years ago put up a allstar/dstar repater using one set of radios we have since lost contact and I would like to do this dose any one here know how. DTMF By-Direction Propagate

Hello All, I have a RF network built out that has various drop repeaters controlled via DTMF. We've been having issues with one of our RF links, so we decided to use 2 RTCM's and an Allstar server to link the sites together via IP instead. This worked great, however I'm having difficulties getting DTMF to pass. On the network we use * and # to control the drop repeaters, so I changed the function characters to: funcchar = A endchar = D, since A and D aren't used on our network. The link is permanently connected so I just wrote a startup macro for node 80: startup_macro = A390DA40 which connects node 80 to 90 and puts 90 into control mode so DTMF passes. The problem is DTMF doesn't pass the other direction. I can't put startup_macro = A380DA40 into node 90's stanza, asterisk complains that the nodes are currently connected. Any ideas how I can do this? Really there is only a handful of commands that need to propagate over the IP link, I read on one of the archived mailing list emails that you can write a COP for every command needed to propagate over the IP link, but I can't figure out how to do that. Detect local RX signal

I run a half-duplex AllStar system that is linked on the same frequency of the remote repeater. I had to enable linktolink=yes for particular reasons so if the node wants to it will just double with the repeater while somebody is talking. I have some particular announcements that I want the repeater to play from my node, but only if there is no traffic on the repeater. I would like to use a script to wait 5 minutes RX signal, and reset if there is and wait another 5 minutes, so basically wait for 5 minutes of silence on the repeater before announcing and playing the audio file. I know there is a file "/dev/shm/~pttstate" which activates when it transmits. Is there something similar for local receive? Allstar activity

I use a script to find people who are talking but it does not seem like there is much activity on the AllStar link system. And its a saturday night! ACID + URIs in new hardware

John, Your other option is to keep your new motherboard and URI. Though ACID does not support newer motherboards, Debian should. I have built a Debian bare metal AllStar install image. It will take you from a fresh HD to running AllStar server. You will then have to edit your config files in /etc/asterisk. Hi, We have used URIs in some radio projects, its a great product. But we can't make it work on "new" PCs. We are using the Centos (ACID) ISO image with Asterisk. In the new PCs there are some problems with the audio. David Kramer from DMK Engineering Inc. Told me that "You are correct in that some newer PCs have very poor hardware support under Linux. Specifically the USB drivers are buggy. The only suggestions we can offer are to 1) try using a different motherboard or 2) use an older PC that as you noted seem to work better." - Which kind of new motherboards work OK with ACID + URIs? - Is there some alternative to the URIs that don't use USB? Problem with Stats and Mapping Servers.

Good day all! Over the past few days, I heard from node sysops that the stats / reporting server was beginning to show signs of illness. I investigated (confirmed) and additionally it is now showing incorrect map displays. So far for us based on the stats from node 2248 (a hub), we are seeing problems for nodes 2257/2258 and 2425 and 27499. There are potentially many reasons for this. It DOES NOT mean (necessarily) that there is a problem with the node itself, or its status on the Allstar Link Network. There may be a problem with this statistics server (which is likely if the node's statistics were available in the past, and are no longer available), or the node may be improperly configured (which is likely if it has never had it's statistics properly displayed). About ten weeks ago, we had a similar problem, which was remedied when Jim WB6NIL (or a proxy) intervened. Looks to be a similar problem. USB Radio

The RPi is a nice board and lots of projects have been built using that platform. But not every AllStar install is suited to the RPi. I have one of the QRV quad boards running 3 repeaters and a IC-706 remote base. The QRV board is a PCI bus, where do I plug that into a RPi? The Intel, AMD and VIA are still viable platforms and have their place today and years to come. Yes, I've heard the refrain, "The RPi is cheap, just add a second RPi" Well, for some applications that's fine. You get 2 IP address to maintain, 2 configuration files to maintain and 2 SDcards. There are times we want everything in one box. I did create scripts for the RPi1, RPi2, BBB, X86, and the APC VIA to run AllStar on Debian. No image needed. No waiting for someone else to build and bless a image. It's very easy to build a image for a platform like the RPi since the hardware is written in stone. Quite a few people are running The Debian scripts to build nodes on everything from a hub in a data center running on a Virtual Machine to the RPi1 running simplex nodes and everything in between. I did help one user build his hub on Ubuntu because that's what he had. The scripts are built for Debian, but there is nothing stopping anyone from using the concepts to build AllStar on Centos or any other Linux platform for that matter. I am not a Centos guy. I prefer Debian and have been running AllStar on Debian for the last 8 years. ACID is fine for some hardware as is Limey Linux for that matter. I just prefer doing it on Debian. To that end, I have built a Debian X86 bare metal installer. It will take someone from nothing to a running AllStar node with a single key press. Are there problems and bugs in AllStar? Sure there are. Anything over 10 lines of code has a bug. Jim has proved over and over through the years that he will find and squash them.
