"Yes, but all that script does is download the mp3 and convert it to one long ulaw file. You can't play that on any Allstar network without breaks. In my script the ARN lines are commented out. You just need to uncomment those, and comment the ARRL lines and change the messages if you want ARN rather than ARRL." Very Nice!

I remember past discussions on this, but I don't know what the best way to do it is. Does anybody here have a good solution for airing AR newsline / do you have the code to download it, play it etc.? I think I am finally getting this finalized. Note the version (0.5) yesterday has a bug. I changed some things around and failed to initialize a variable. Please use this version. This version 0.6 has a test for the database actually being in the defined path (set SRCDIR in script) and the ability to change volume levels. The levels are 1-10. The added option is -l level You can experiment with your own node and local playback to get the level the way you want it before you process the entire node list. ./write_nodename -on 40000 -d /root -l 2 asterisk -rx "rpt localplay 40000 /root/40000" Of course change to your nodes. Note that the level will likely not work on older installs. I don't think it works on the Acid release. I am basically writing this for the BBB and RPi2 crowd and it works fine there. I was able to get the script to run by changing script from !/bin/bash to !/bin/sh HOWEVER, I had to terminate the script because the node files being created were adding every node id to every gsm created. The files were becoming huge. Not sure why that was happening. just fyi ..i have no idea how to write scripts so wouldn't know where to begin. The .tar of node names work great! Thanks K1IF - John

Attached is the write_nodename script with a few last minute refinements. It will now include both call and node number with the -i argument. This is handy when you have more than one node with the same callsign. With the -i option it will say: w3xyz node 40000 connected to ...... You would probably only want to do this for selected nodes but you could do the entire node list that way if desired. Using the -o (overwrite) option would replace an existing entry. To revert to the default just node message simply deleted the <node>.gsm file or files manually from /var/lib/asterisk/sounds/rpt/nodenames It now also requires a -a option to process all of the nodes. Executing without any options will just give the usage screen. This prevents things from happening unexpectedly when just running the script without any options. Replace any prior scripts with this one and put it in your search path. /usrlocal/sbin is a good place. Comments always welcome. If you are using this with a BBB or RPI2 or anything with an SD card it would not be a good idea to run this as a daily job with the -o (overwrite) option as it would mean many unnecessary writes.
