Connection problem

Hello to the group, It's been a while but am back the mailing list. I have a problem with version 0.210. I can not connect to anyone. I have port 4569 forwarded, the rpt_externode file is in tact with the right port numbers, 4569. I also have a Notice that say auto congestion call do to slow response. And last a Warning that say for waitstream_core: Unexpected control subclass '13'. Can anyone shed any light? Thanks Will / W4WWM

Disconnect messages

I used to get connect and disconnect messages when stations connected or disconnected.. Now I only get connect messages. Any idea what I might have changed to get this? Same in echolink, IRLP and allstar nodes. Thanks, Scott KB2EAR

Having install problems

I am trying to install the latest iso. I keep getting the following message: PXE-E53: no boot filename received Any ideas guys? I can run the Centos 5.4 live cd fine on the same pc with full network access Chuck K0XM

echolink offline?

I have added the config file for EchoLink and am receiving the messages about EchoLink server OK and directory download, on a regular basis. But the echolink.org status page shows my node as "off" (not offline, the QTH *is* being reported under the description column). If I try to connect to another on line echo link node using the 7 digit number, I get absolutely nothing. No messages from debug or verbose and the asterisk node says it is still in the repeat only mode. (yes I did port forwarding in my router for the asterisk computer IP address). I searched the knowledge base the mail archives for a while under the subject "echolink" but could not find any hints. Is there some online/offline switch for echolink? How can I trouble-shoot? Ken PS - is there a way to perform a search on the entire email archive?

Today I added a second node to my system and had my first inter-asterisk QSO. I found two problems which may, or may not, be related. first issue: During the QSO, there were a lot of drop outs (both ways apparently). These were accompanied by "Hungup..." messages on the console. I think these are not anything to do with audio or USB, but rather with the internet (parrot mode works fine, for example). I wonder what other people's experience is with this? Could it be something my ISP is doing to me (they are famous for this kind of thing). This happens in monitor-only mode too, and apparently it is noticeable on the other and as at some point when I was doing this a control operator came on and said my node was 'coughing' and then proceeded to disconnect me from his end. I hate to think I am screwing up other peoples systems by just listening to them. What to do? I noticed that there is a "drop count" parameter in IAX [from this I concluded that the inter-asterisk exchange protocol must have some end to end acknowleements ?] second issue: when I connect my first node to my second node on the same machine I get a ping-pong effect (or similar) where the first node keeps playing the courtesy tone (and PTT remains on continuously) and the second node drops the PTT but immediately keys up again. host name for DHCP

Does any linux guru out there know how to change the DHCP client name from TEST? I followed the instruction to use system-config-network and suceeded in changing the shell prompt to the host name I want, but my router still says the node name is TEST. Some internet searching came up with the "dhclient" command - which works - but after the next lease renewal it is back to TEST again. That name must be buried someplace in the linux configuration. This probably explains why I never experienced this. I never use the mic input with a URI as I like to send the pre-emphasized and limited audio directly to the modulator. This works quite well as long as you have a a transmitter using direct FM and not phase modulation. Steve WA6ZFT ******************************************************************** I find the term 'rxdemod=flat' a little confusing, since discriminator audio will contain pre-emphasized audio, generated by a user's transmitter. I assume that apt_rpt converts receive audio to 'flat' by de-emphasizing discriminator audio but not 'speaker' audio, (as selected) prior to presenting it to other nodes or to the transmitter software routines? I'm also guessing that the apt_rpt internal flat audio, generated as above or from other nodes/Iaxrpt, feeds the radio transmit software module, where it is treated as per the 'txprelim' switch before going to the analog interface. I hope I'm not the only one that wondered about the precise functioning of the usbradio.conf audio selections and how they operate. If I am, it's worth a beer. Transmit or receive? so you see the distortion on the TX line or RX line if you look with a scope? You might be able to determine where it is getting distored by connecting your node to a working node you can monitor, then send audio both ways. Steve WA6ZFT Steve: Thank you for your response. Much appreciated. This distortion also appears when accessing the transmitter digitally via Iaxrpt with no radio receivers involved. Ditto for when my node is connected elsewhere, such as Calnet. The problem is entirely on transmit, somewhere in the route from apt_rpt internals to the MICOR exciter audio input. The receive audio is perfect. I have two independent nodes on separate computers. I followed your suggestion and linked them together. Using a service monitor, I fed 1 KHz tones at various deviations into the receiver of Node A and monitored the transmit output of problem Node B. There is no distortion until reaching 4 KHz. At 5 KHz deviation, there is serious distortion of the sine wave. I want to emphasize that this problem remains constant no matter if the modulation source originates in a radio receiver, another node or Iaxrpt. As Ken mentioned earlier, adjusting txvoice moves the deviation up and down but has no effect upon the distortion. FWIW, the distortion (on voice) sounds like listening to a loudspeaker with a ripped cone. After reading Ken's last post, I tried 'txprelim=yes' and it was a great improvement. It would be nice if the limiting could be selected independently. To summarize: it seems that with 'txprelim=no', audio from a receiver seeing 5 KHz peaks or the equivalent from Iaxrpt or from other nodes, is going to be distorted by the URI being overdriven. Unfortunately, the distortion strikes right at the deviation level that most users hit regularly. I am not using the DMK product. I understand it's a very professional unit.
