Hold fire that man! I've just done what I should have done first and that is to read back thru most of the reflector archive. Taking on board a tip about commenting out the CTCSS statement in the zaptel.conf file when not using CTCSS, I commented out the rxctcss statement in the usbradio.conf and voilà problem solved, everything is working. Could comment out the txctcss statement if I'm not using CTCSS on transmit to save CPU power? I'm now curious about the [general] context statements: rxcpusaver=0 txcpusaver=0 What do these do? The squelch from the radio is recognized by the USB interface as I get radiochan_usbradio NOTICES showing that rxcarrierdetect is following the radio mute OK. But Rpt stats indicates signal on input = no and doesn't change. The rpt.conf file is the example other than the node number and I've also tried adding duplex=4 to the node context but this doesn't change things. A possibly related question is the purpose of the [radio-secure] context in extensions.conf. What is its purpose and where is it referenced from? I already have a context for incoming telephone calls to the system ie 1234,1,Rpt,1234|D Suggestions appreciated! I have 2 identical dual p3-500 boxen on which to run centos/*/app_rpt. Should I expect any problems running centos/*/app_rpt on these dual processor boxen? I'd expect one will support a quad radio port card and a tdm-400 with 3 green modules (possibly an arib board using 2 of those) and the other supporting a tdm400 card with 1 fxo and 1 fxs and sip termination to the pstn. this second box will also likely be the link by wihch the first sees the rest of the world. I do not forsee any other services running on these boxen. What can I expect from these as far as performance? what gotchas await me along the path to making this work? Thanks, Eric

Hi All, This will no doubt be one of those blindly obvious problems but .... I'm reasonably familiar with Asterisk in normal IAX/Sip type environments. I've just built my own repeater system basically using ACID to get an idea of the technology. I'm thinking of setting up a server running asterisk 1.6 here in the next few days. Should there be any issues running app-rpt or the irlp/echonet channel drivers under 1.6. Eric

If there's a soundcard built into the system, you could use that to record the audio from the node, Connect the audio from the Asterisk system to a Y splitter, so you can pick the audio off and feed it to the Line In on the soundcard. Then there's a bunch of commandline programs that could be used to record, or alternatively, setup a streaming audio feed. 73 de VK3JED http://vkradio.com

Hi everyone, Does anyone know a way of recording the traffic (audio) in / out of the node and saving it as a file ( MP3 or whatever ) on the node hard drive? Something along the lines of Scanrec, which is a windows application with built in Vox and timestamps, would be ideal but I wanted to avoid having another machine involved. Anyone any ideas or thoughts on how this could be done - I should add that I'm a complete newbie! Thanks in advance for any replies. 73, Matt G4RKY

Hi all, I have been monitoring the list for a while and read through some of the the archives. I am thinking of taking the plunge into the AppRpt world. Q1) I have a need to have an 8 port repeater controller at one site (local radios) with maybe 1 or 2 off site IAX links possible later. Can a single Asterisk box perform as an 8 port controller? If so, can it be done with 8 USB fobs? I read some were that a system was set up with a USB hub and 7 Fobs. Q2)Assuming system above is doable, what hardware would be required? I have an IBM P4 3G with 1Gig of memory. I also have 2 USB 2.0 PCI cards to install for USB support. Will this system do? Q3) I went to the Allstar page to request a node number but have not received a response. for over 2 weeks. Did I do something wrong? I filled out all the required info and it said Information uploaded. Does this mean the info was submitted? Q4) There seems to be several USB Fobs out there, and some are supported and some look like the right ones but dont have the cm 108 chips. Is there a list of known makes and models that are supported for AppRpt? If not could this info be posted some ware so if one finds a source of the fob then the model could be checked before buying? Q5) Can AppRpt support other audio interfaces like multiple Sound cards or IRLP interfaces. I know it can use the IRLP interface as a radio interface. Can it also support M AUDIO multiport audio pci cards? Anyway that my first opening questions for my project. Thanks for any help. Jon VA3RQ

Following some major changes to the VK IRLP/Echolink backbone, the performance of AllStar node 2199 has been improved considerably. The audio dropouts that plagued the system appear to have gone in early testing, and I'm getting a clean feed. The distance has been reduced from around 16000km to 800km between the AllStar node and the rest of the network. Latency across the link is now a little over 20mS RTT (down from around 200mS), and most likely less jitter. I do eventually intend to move Asterisk to the same physical server as the new hub, but we are having issues getting Asterisk compiled correctly for the environment (the system is running in a vserver virtual machine). Once the final move has been made, AllStar will also have the capability to handle many simultaneous connections, probably limited by the resources of the host machine (which is a fairly beefy box, I am told). [App_rpt] custom_on and custum_off equivalents in app_rpt

Hi Folks; Does anyone know how to trigger a script or macro once an app_rpt connection has been established / disconnected? (similar to the irlp custom_on and off script)? With Scott's help, I have been trying various configurations over the past week; the latest config' is with the irlp board as the 'master' interface between the PC and the repeater controller and app_rpt connected to the rtpDir bridge. IRLP allows one to turn the aux outputs on and off (through custom_on and off), further it also 'touches' a file $LOCAL/active (from memory.... I'm on the train!). You can then look for this file in other scripts to determine whether the node is active or not. Creating that file is no big deal.... just need to figure out a hook into app_rpt to signal when a connection is active, and when the node is idle. Any ideas? Cheers, Ramesh.
