[App_rpt] URI configuration help
by David McGough 20 Jul '08

Hi Everyone, I'm finally getting to "finish up" my URI based project and wondered if someone could help point me to some advanced sample asterisk/app_rpt config files (usbradio.conf, rpt.conf, primarily) for using the URI adapters. I've currently got 1 URI working properly with my TKR-850 repeater. Now, I want to add 2 remote base radios for VHF and HF, do some linking, etc. I, mainly need more info about the syntax to use with multiple URI's, usbradio.conf options, etc. Thanks in advance! [App_rpt] Hot TX audio
by Steven Palm 16 Jul '08

16 Jul '08

Hi all, Just fishing for ideas... I have my app_rpt node connected to a radio right now via the mic input, and the audio is HOT. Using the 'radio tune txvoice' command, I get no audioble ouput when using a number below 27, but anything over 50 or so drives the radio way way wide in deviation and starts clipping. I'm assuming that the parameter here is adjusting the volume on the USB sound fob, and it's just too much for the rig... Thinking a resistor in the TX audio line would do it, any suggested for a size? :) Then I can run over to Radio Shack and pay them $3.95 for an $0.18 resistor. LoL Steve

Use an 'L' network made out of 2 resistors. Start with 68 kohms for the top resistor, and 470 ohms for the bottom resistor. Feed the output output from the fob to the top resistor, and take the audio at the tap for the microphone input. Connect the bottom of the 470 ohm resistor to mic ground. There's no standard for microphone sensitivity across radios. It varies all over the place from a few millivolts P-P to a volt P-P or so. If you are willing to tear the radio apart, you could inject the USB fob output right into the modulator of the radio. This will provide the best signal to noise ratio. This is what I prefer to do. [App_rpt] nodenames.tar.gz: clearing up the confusion
by Stephen Rodgers 05 Jun '08

05 Jun '08

All, My original message regarding submittals for nodenames.tar.gz was missing some important information. The nodenames.tar.gz contains asterisk sound files which are spoken in lieu of the node number during connect and disconnect messages. For example, without nodenames.tar.gz unpacked in /var/lib/asterisk/sounds/rpt, you might expect to hear a message like "Node 2000 connected to node 2010". With nodenames.tar.gz unpacked in /var/lib/asterisk/sounds/rpt you would hear the following message instead: "Ocean Beach Hub connected to WA6ZFT La Mesa". Note that the node numbers are replaced with node names. The way this works is app_rpt looks for a file whenever it has to say a node number in the directory /var/lib/asterisk/sounds/rpt/nodenames. If it finds a file name stem/prefix matching the node number, (e.g. 2000.ulaw) it plays the file instead of saying the node number. Specs: These messages should be as short as possible. And encoded in 14 bit ULAW at a sample rate of 8KHz. The audio level should be normalized to 32 percent of full level, You total file size should not exceed 50 kilobytes. Cooledit is a good suggested program to use to generate these files. I hope this clears up any confusion caused by the original message. I will be taking submissions for audio files until 6/6/08. Re: [App_rpt] Simplex node with just RXAud/TXAud/PTT ?

Well, I don't know what particular part of my synaptic net wasn't firing before, but being stubborn enough to try everything at least a few more times has paid off. Have the setting of VOX does seem to be working perfectly for me right now the way I want it with the radio handling squelch and CTCSS encode/decode. On Jun 3, 2008, at 11:52 PM, Roger F. Jordan Sr. wrote: > I can tell you that there is a way to hook up an HT. This isn't a big deal, the primary reason I am installing the link is for radio to radio work, not autopatch work... Although I understand there is experimental support in the works for a VOX autopatch mode to help. At any rate, I most likely will be in a position to have other channels to issue commands to the system when using it anyway if need be. At some point I may look at a full duplex node, so thank you for your advisements. Steve - N9YTY

[App_rpt] Simplex node with just RXAud/TXAud/PTT ?
by Steven Palm 04 Jun '08

04 Jun '08

Is there any way (for testing right now, maybe short term usage for one node) to utilize just an HT for the simplex node? I see that if I am not coming off the discriminator (I wouldn't be, I'd be using speaker) I can't use the DSP functions for tone decode. For this type of connection I would probably have the radio set up in a squelched state and with CTCSS encode/decode turned on in the radio, so I'd need app_rpt to just detect an audio level instead of COR. I have a connection set up that way, and the TX is fine, and for RX the DTMF tones do produce output on the console showing they are decoded, but I cannot trigger any functions while doing this, presumably because it either thinks no carrier is there or it thinks it hasn't dropped, I'm not sure which. Any thoughts on this? It would sure make my life easier in the short term. I tried carrierfrom=dsp and carrierfrom=vox... even carrierfrom=no doesn't make it response to DTMF tones. rxsquelch shows Current Signal Strength of 999. Also, if I have no unsquelched audio, the radio tune rxnoise will fail. But yet for the way I would like to run it there would be no rx audio without a carrier present. I know I read that a minimum connection was just rxaudio, txaudio and PTT so I'm hoping there is some way to make this work with the modified USB FOB. Thanks, Steve

Hi all, Not entirely just app_rpt related, but how does one update their node information on the allstar list? I see a login on the page, and I can log in, but nothing really changes. Thanks, Steve

Re: [App_rpt] New USB Fob attempt...

Steve, This is definitely a strange problem. I have not seen these issues (at least on the hardware I have). You might want to ask either of the USB FOB developers Steve Henke or Jim Dixon to ssh into the machine to see what is going on with the USB channel driver and XPMR on your hardware platform. You might also want to try different hardware platforms and do direct installs (without using virtualization) to try and identify what makes the problem come and go.
