I'm compelled to reply on the subject, as I posted the original message. It's unclear to me if your response was intended to be brusque, or if perhaps that was just due to the nature of email. I'm going to assume it was the latter, as I've read helpful posts from you in the past. One of things I enjoy about app_rpt is that there are multiple ways to accomplish things. There are also countless undocumented features of app_rpt and it's associated software. I don't understand though when someone feels it's necessary to publicly berate someone for asking a question. That stifles creativity, and before you know it, the group becomes a rather unfriendly one, e.g - IRLP. The idea of using multiple copies of rpt.conf and copying a symlink is a good one, and is something I have done in the past. I have ran into situations where 'rpt reload' causes connected nodes to disconnect, and so on, causing a real problem on a linked system. Which is why I asked the question in the first place.. Not every possible combination can be predicted by a software author. That's why capabilities are provided to 'roll your own' and it's running on the OS platform it is running on: if it's not in the application, there is some way YOU can, using the rich set of tools that are freely provided, do what needs be done. We can't expect Jim to do everything.

Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays to everyone, I'm wondering if COP commands exist to enable/disable courtesy tones? I'd like to be able to set one controlstate for courtesy tones, and one without. Is this possible? Thanks. 73 Kyle K0KN

The only rpt.conf is in /etc/asterisk Macros are a little different. For the sort of thing that Kyle asked about, I do something like this: First, I have several copies of rpt.conf that are all as much the same as needed, with whatever changes are desirable for whichever mode I want. You could set one up for daytime and another for nighttime and have a cron job set up to swap over at midnight and 7 AM, for instance. Anyway, in my case, I have an rpt.conf.use (for normal use); rpt.conf.net (different courtesy tones for net operation, no tail messages, no voice ID's), and rpt.conf.news (no telemetry delays, no courtesy tones, extremely short tail, morse ID, and no tail message, automagically drops connections to other things and connects to ARNews line). In each of these, I have a command in the node stanza like this, or similar: 901638=cmd,/etc/asterisk/scripts/netmode This runs a script that announces a mode change, i.e. "Net mode", "Resuming normal operation", "Stand by for news", whatever, sleeps 3 seconds to allow the announcement to complete, changes a symbolic link from one rpt.conf.something to rpt.conf (you could copy over, but why have two copies of the same file if you don't need to?), and reloads the configuration. Quick and dirty, net mode looks like this, without any failsafes, ugly, and as basic, quick, and dirty as it gets: #!/bin/bash asterisk -rx "rpt localplay 2331 netmode" sleep 3 cp -fs /etc/asterisk/rpt.conf.net /etc/asterisk/rpt.conf asterisk -rx "rpt reload" exit 0 So I don't have any file actually named rpt.conf at all. rpt.conf is a symbolic link to some other repeater configuration, whichever mode I happen to be in. It's painfully obvious that I need to get smarter on configuration options in app_rpt. I've been searching for resource material for non-programmers and have come up woefully short. Here's what I've found. Chan SIP jitter buffer

Does anyone know if ACID supports the SIP jitterbuffer feature of Asterisk v1.4? >From the source code in chan_sip, it looks like the jitter buffer is disabled/ignored. It would seem that my little wireless sip phone really needs a little buffer on the receive (asterisk) end. Thanks Ken

We intend to run our own server. I own a web hosting company and have access to Internet grade bandwidth. Aside from the server and a RTCM for each server is there anything else that we will need to buy to begin building a 2 site voted simulcast site? Our current setup has an Arcom RC-210 with a phone patch. As an ECOMM repeater we don't want to lose the phone patch. Knowing that Asterisks is a PBX platform can we just install a line card? I already have a POTS line at my dada center. Thanks in advance for your advice. The software says FT897, but the 857 looks identical, as far as the software is concerned. The app_rpt source will limit frequency ranges, and will set mode properly for the frequency entered. Lioke enter 29.600 mhz, it sets up FM, enter 7.245 and you get LSB, enter 18.125 get USB, etc, etc. I think 144.2 gets USB as well. And the rtadio does 160-6 meters, plus 2 meters and 440, all multimode. Now that's SLICK. The absolute only thing I wish it dod was PTT via the CAT port. The radio does it, in fact app_rpt does it but only for tuneup (it keys via CAT port), but for operation you need hardwired PTT. That's on my wish list. But really, the FT857/897 would be my choice. It does IC-706 but only the MKII version does 70cm and not sure the app_rpt source kept up with its ability to do 70cm. Can I ask one of the Asterisk gurus to help with some syntax? I would like to arrange so that my IP phone can dial an extension on my asterisk box and be put on hold while the repeater announces the incoming call - much the same as the portal does - except just locally here. I think this would require a dial plan extension that uses ParkAndAnnounce() where the announcement is made using an Rpt function - then just waiting a certain amount of time for someone on the repeater to activate the auto-patch and pick up the call. My chances of guessing the right syntax for this are infinitesimal, so I would appreciate some help. Many thanks and season's greetings Ken @ 27021 27061 28204
