Starting the WebTranceiver's JAVA app can sometimes be a problem. The following lists several Operating systems and browser configurations and some solutions: Mac OS Snow Leopard 10.6.8 with Safari: no problems Windows IE 6.0 under VMWare 3.13: no problems Windows XP and IE 7.0: Could not get JAVA to run Solution: Installed the Chrome browser and JAVA ran on it with no problems Windows 7 and IE 9.0: Could not get JAVA to run Installing the Chrome browser did not work Installing the Safari browser did not work Solution: Disabled all addons in IE-9 including JAVA plugins - now works well A cleaner solution would be to go through each add-ons individually to determine which combination is causing the problem but this works

IRLP and App_rpt

Hello, I just signed up for Allstar. I have a dedicated IRLP node that I want to convert to IRLP / Allstar. Can I use the IRLP board or must I add a Asterisk URI board ? Can I load the App_rpt software on top of the IRLP software ? Sal N6SPD

URI Vox settings

I dove in and purchased the URI interface for my Allstar node and have configured the radio, and the interface responds to tuning and operation. At this time I've setup the URI using vox for the receive trigger and wonder if there is any vox settings with in the URI or Asterisk as it is very sensitive and having issues with pulse back when unkeying. Before I look into the radio to obtain the cor control I thought I'd ask here if anyone else has had issues with the vox operation. Thanks Rick..

changing PL on the fly

is there any way to change the PL values on the run, or does it require a full restart, since it's not a rpt function as much as it is in the USB module? Just taking my nuclear option a bit further and actually have scripts to do so based on a function call (I put them in /etc/asterisk/scripts/lidon.sh and lidoff.sh), but right now, the script does an asterisk -rx "restart now" (reload just didn't read the usbradio.conf file,) Would like it to be a bit less 'nuclear' than aggravating my upstream hub sysop and other users who may be listening... Gentle direction appreciated... BB

The original reply from Ken, suggesting problems may be encountered if COS was set when asterisk starts, or if it stays set for too long seems to have been at least part of the problem. I restarted Asterisk rather than just reloading config, and things starting behaving more as expected - with verbosity set to 7 I'm now seeing RPT_RXKEYED = 1 every now and again. Debugging COS

I'm still chipping away at modifying a Startech CM108 USB fob - so far I have successfully got PTT and audio out working, but I'm struggling with audio in and COS. I've been following http://www.qsl.net/k0kn/cm108_mod.html Can anyone advise if there's a way to determine from the Asterisk side if COS is active or not? I've even tried manually taking the CM108 pin 48 to 0v and +5v with the iax.conf below, but I can't seem to make anything 'happen'. Creating a Private Network

I'm new to Allstar and Asterisk, and I've taken several days to poke around and understand how everything works together. I'm interested in creating a private network with node registration, similar to how Allstar registers and coordinates node numbers. Based on everything I've absorbed in the last week or so, it looks like the crucial step is the IAX2 registration that hits register.allstarlink.org with the node number and assigned password. To recreate a centralized server to handle node assignment/registration, it looks like I need to run a copy of Asterisk (in one configuration or another, with or without app_rpt?) on a public server. Now the details get fuzzy because I don't know what goes on behind-the-scenes on the Allstar server. Looking at iax.conf, it appears that the central server would need stanzas for each node that is authorized on the system, set up as type=peer and host=dynamic. Once the iax.conf file on the node server is configured to register at the central server with the correct node/password combo, it should register once IAX2 is reloaded. I've gotten this far on my own, with one issue: the registration process shows 192.168.1.1 as the other server's IP address, rather than the WAN IP. I'm not immediately sure why, but one possibility is that since I'm running both servers within the same LAN, it may not be reaching outside the network for an external IP. In my register statement I'm using the WAN IP, however. I will have to move the one server outside the LAN to see if the issue resolves itself. So can someone fill in any gaps, or confirm my assumptions? What steps do I need to do in order to create a private Allstar clone? I'm a senior PHP developer with some C experience, plus I'm comfortable with Linux in general. Just need some help figuring out how the central Allstar servers keep track of nodes. Thanks! The 'nuclear' option

Well...running a system is always a journey, not a destination. Anyway, being in the metro area out here in one of the original 13 colonies...we get more than our share of lids, drive-bys, and other bottom-feeders who seem to like to do things like sit there and randomly key up machines (hey, Ma, looky at this! I press one button and 13 transmitters turn on!), spout colorful anglo-saxon metaphors, play DJ with bad music occasionally....or just act like alpha hotels on our systems, either individually or when we're connected to a reflector. It's just a feature of being wedged in between NYC (no comment...) and PHL (city of brotherly love with an obscene lethal crime rate...). Anyway...looking for thoughts on having, in a network of machines, a 'nuclear' option to 1. shut them out, at least for a while 2. minimize the fun (on their part...) 3. return some sanity, at least until they tire and slither off to bother some other machine (sorry...the next freq up doesn't have the technology...and it's my ticket that's transmitted as the ID...) So...thinking about this. Quickest solution I came up with, but it requires an asterisk restart ("service asterisk restart" from the shell) would be to change the input PL, leaving the output PL (our coord bodies out here like to see bi-directional PLs...) in place. Most mobiles and HTs can scan for the output PL...but, unless the lid is more than an appliance operator, they probably wouldn't be able to figure out how to scan the input (at least most of the time, I'll grant you that some probably would...but would the effort be worth it?) Yeah, this means that you have to have 2 stored settings in your mobile or HT for each participating machine on the same network. And, if they're closer to the antenna than you are...capture effect would come into play, etc if they key up under/over you. But, I'm looking at the low hanging fruit (in the spirit of not letting the perfect become the enemy of the good...). Is anyone else dealing with this problem (other than going on bunny hunts with a supply of sewing needles and a set of flush cutters?) or thought about what to do?
