First Installation Attempt

I have install the CentOS software and it rebooted a few times and ask me to change the root password which I did. Now it ask for test login: I'm not sure what login to input. whatever I try it fails any help? Hugo K7HJE

Raspberry Pi B+

After reading some time ago on this list that running Allstar on a Rasp Pi was not recommended, I nonetheless tried to get it running on the B+. I have been running a simplex node (29577) on a B+ for some months now without any apparent audio issues. It works to my satisfaction. Since there is no "turnkey" solution for this platform, I had to compile from the SVN code. I ended up using Arch Linux as the OS at the suggestion of Anthony VK2ACP. Anthony and I also traded numerous emails to smooth out the bumps in getting this build running. Anthony is now planning to make use of what was learned and hopes to build a turnkey image for the Raspberry Pi. I will at some point hopefully write up what I learned and make it available for others who want to go through this exercise. I probably wouldn't have done it unless I had a couple of Rasp Pi B+ boards around. Until someone (perhaps Anthony) decides to put in the work and create a turnkey image, I don't recommend this for anyone who is not an experienced Linux hacker. Firstly, I've been using a Raspberry PI for some time with Asterisk over MESH networking. It has been very succesful unless more than two calls are in place at one time. But for evaulation purposes it was fine. I've just upgraded to the PI 2 and find that although the machine is generally a lot faster the VOIP has quality has declined. Sound breaks up at times, particularly at the beginning of a call shortly after reboot. Things seem to improve with time which I guess may be down to some kind of cacheing of some modules and wav files. Maybe the microSD card isn't operating quickly enough ? I'll be pursuing this further as it seems unlikely that the machine isn't suitable for simple Asterisk use. One thing is sure, I might counsel caution about assuming the new PI will run with Allstar and Asterisk in a production environment just because its billed as 6 times faster. I'm ever baffled at the attitudes displayed by some on these sites. Doug et al, - you have an amazing website and have done a phenomenal amount of work for the good of others. I'm putting together a repeater to link into our MESH network and have just taken delivery of the DMK URI. The BBB has just arrived too. I've been in IT for thirty years professionally and I am very experienced in C software development. Maybe that's exactly why I really don't want to play around learning all the daft little things that others have learned before me to compile and make the software work on a new platform. Someone else has sufferd the annoyances on my behalf. I'll go and find some similar annoyances to entertain me elsewhere. The BBB image looks absolutely great and I expect to get it up and running easily. There seems to be a case of false equivalency developing here. A large number of us do not want or need a image with a few scripts to hold our hand to use AllStar. We want the source code, we want the configuration files and that's it. If all AllStar Asterisk was is a image I download and install, I would not be using it. And for that matter, what is the SVN but a roll out of some files and have a nice day. It seems that if you are not interested in running the images provided you are somehow disrespecting the people that create and support them. At least for me, nothing could be further from the truth. I have not put down Acid, Limey, Pickle or BBB. They all have their place. Just not what I want or need to do. I roll my own, that's why I got involved with helping Jim. I contribute support, patches and money to this project. On the other hand, People that prefer a particular image seem to think if you don't want to run the same image you do you are doing something wrong. It's a little more then just rolling out a few files. It about setting up a environment to compile and install the version of Asterisk and app_rpt we want to run. I don't care if someone has done extensive testing of the RPI and deemed it inferior. Someone might consider the fact that there are a lot of people that want to try it and maybe after they cut their teeth on a RPI they move on to something better. And horror of horrors, it's not someones image. Skyler, Yes, Allstar will operate on a Pi as a simplex node. Is it perfect? No. The USB has to be droped back to 1.1 but it does function. I did not create a image that can be burned to a card and run. I have some scripts and instructions that will help someone compile and run a simplex node on a Pi. It's not a hold your hand project. What there ever an answer to this below? I am trying my first one and stuck at the same place... ------Original email below-------- Hi Guys, I'm using Randy's method of putting Limey on a 2GB CF card, and creating an extra partition for storage (here: http://ohnosec.org/drupal/node/43) Everything goes as it should, but the boot stops at: EXT2-fs: Warning checktime reached. Running e2fsck is recommended. Obviously the thin client wants to check it before it mounts it (when I created the partition, it did say it would be checked every 27 mounts or similar). I get a flashing cursor, and I can type in whatever I like - but it won't do anything! Has anyone else had this? If so, how did you overcome it? Cheers, James 29681
