VPS Installation of Allstar

The company that I work for allows me to keep a server in one of their racks. I use Virtuozzo VPS and my “containers” are backed up nightly just like client servers. Nice perk of the job. The thing is that when one deploys a “container” it only installs a very minimal OS. Applications generally call RPM or YUM and grab what they need. I’ve read recently of some that a lot of experience with Debian and other flavors. My question is this: how does one get Allstar loaded from a minimal installation? I can build a server that is not running VPS but if I can get the best of both worlds... We’re finally getting our RTCM installed in the repeater and I want to set up a hub and getting cracking! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

my new allstar box is on 100meg port in a data center i'd like 2 see how much of my port really getting does anyone on here know how to stresstest a all star box? jimmy

Ras Pi 2 doesn't like xenon flashes???

Hi Everyone, I just saw this thread in another newsgroup. Basically, they're saying the Pi2 will hang/crash if subjected to a close xenon camera flash discharge! Weird! Can anyone confirm if this is true? ...If they're sensitive to a flash, they might be sensitive to RF as well. Perhaps an EMP issue? pciradio DCS decode config?

So I've been messing with my 902 mhz repeater here and wanted to move it to DCS eventually (all radios on 902 have DCS). I've never setup DCS on pciradio before, but have done CTCSS(pl) and it works. However when moving it to DCS I've not been able to get it to do anything and it just acts like carrier squelch. Anyone have any ideas? If you are using a default set-up, you should be using "root" as user log-in. If not, most likely, you are using a user you created that does not have ownership rights of the files you are trying to manipulate. Lean more by googleing linux file ownership. Also see linux file permissions. New Configuration Help

I have install the CenTOS software with all the hardware installed URI and Radio, but it never did ask me for node number, callsign etc. I'm at the [root@test ~]# I know I now need to configure this not sure how to change directories. CD /etc just brings me back to the root Hugo K7HJE

Hi David, No, I haven't tried the Allstar code on PI2. I don't intend to. I've got a BBB for that. Sorry if its off topic, but I figured that in these early days of the PI2 folk might be interested in my finding that the mainstream Asterisk code is not working well on the standard distro, yet works fine on the older PI. It occurred to me that if the mainstream package isn't working where it used to on the old machine, you might want to infer that the extra overhead of using the Allstar code probably wouldn't be too successful either. Only an inference and yet to be demonstrated. I only ever want to run vanilla asterisk on the PI2 and so had better make this the last post on the point since I should be more "on topic" on the Asterisk users mailing list for that. 73 and keep up the good work Bernie GM4WZG Hi Bernie, So your running a recent Asterisk version, but not the AllStar release, on the RPi? Have you tried the AllStar code? Even though Asterisk is the host environment for AllStar, the apps/app_rpt.c, channels/chan_simpleusb.c and related code make comparing these different environments impossible. From a resource utilization standpoint, it's rather like comparing a freezer ice cube to the iceberg that sank the Titanic!! (Well, maybe not quite that extreme! HiHI) ...The AllStar code (with USB support) uses a LOT of CPU power, etc.! For all who are interested out there, the plain Asterisk distro (not AllStar) runs great on most of the little boards that I've tested. Anyway, please don't take this as criticism--I'm not meaning that at all. And, I'm very interested to hear what results users are having with any installation of Asterisk or AllStar. 73, David KB4FXC

Raspberry PI-2 and Asterisk

Just an update, although I'm not using the apt-rpt fork I'm sure there are folk interested. For over one year I've used Asterisk very succesfully on two Raspberry Pis B+. Moved to PI-2 yesterday. Having used dist-upgrade to get current release of Raspbian Wheezy (7). I'm running Asterisk 1.8.13.1. VOIP slow and stuttering, but at times ok. The distribution is billed as backward compatible with the Model Bs so I popped it back into the slower Model B. Works perfectly - every time. Back to PI-2. Problems with stuttering and very slow voice messages. Seems to affect voice messages mostly but not exclusively. Two different PI-2s have been tried. Thought it might be something to do with the SD card not being able to keep up. Moved OS to a USB memory stick, allegedly many times faster than SD. Perhaps a marginal improvement, but difficult to say. I have several other projects getting behind so I don't plan to do anything more - the production system remains on the older PI until reports from others start to appear. More than happy with BBB solution for apt-rpt anyway so no rush. 73 Bernie GM4WZG
