Greetings fellow Allstarlink members, Once again I am reposting this email which is very similar to last year with the hopes that we as the amateur community can step forward and support our hobby, mainly the app_rpt and allstarlink technology that we all enjoy today. As many of you that are new to app_rpt this year might NOT know, the creator of app_rpt and the allstarlink network has never charged or asked for financial support to keep the allstarlink system going for the use in amateur radio. He has never charged users money to be a part of app_rpt or the use of the allstarlink network, nor has he ever made any profit off of specific hardware sales for the allstarlink network. Through the years he has put in a great deal of time and dedication along with his exceptional talents to make app_rpt and the allstarlink network the great VOIP technology that it has become today. No other VOIP technology in the amateur radio community can even compare to the technology, features and capability that is offered for free to anyone wishing to setup there own allstarlink node. Another understated fact is that there are monthly costs associated with keeping things running smoothly for the allstarlink system. These costs are for server collocation, domain certifications and so on, amounting to roughly $175 per month. Jim has been paying these monthly fees from donations, but mostly out of his own pocket. Wouldn't it be nice if we could all pitch in and help him to at the least cover these monthly costs for this coming year? NHRC (N1KDO) Board

Hey guys! I was just setting up a node via the http://allstarlink.orgportal and stumbled upon NHRC (N1KDO) Board option under Interface Variety in the Node Radio Configuration tab. It seems to have four ports. I have been searching the net for more information about this and were to get it, and I can't find anything. Anyone know anything about this? Ian Ki6ies

Sending commands via php..

Inspired by Tim's superlative allmon script...and talking with Paul KC2VRJ, we dug up a php script and AMI include file that initially let you hard define one node to send DTMF commands to from the command line. Well...I'm an inveterate (but not competent) php hacker...so, I modified it a bit to do a couple things...one was mod it so it could be called from either the shell OR inside a URL (messily...), and second was to change the coding a bit so you could specify both the node and the DTMF command (the NJ/PA Asterisk Group controls the network out here via the function stanzas at each node and on our hubs). Anyway...I'm going to include the first swing of my hacked code and said include file (which has a lot more functionality...just using one small piece) in this message...the usage from the cli is: /where/ever/control.php node# dtmf (like /var/www/html/control.php 99999 *9205) (where node# is the allstar # and dtmf is the function defined in the node stanza in rpt.conf) and from a URL: http://www.somewebserver.com/control.php?node=#####&cmd=dtmfsequence It's fugly. From the URL, it prints out the #!/usr/bin/php -q command at the top...so, if anyone can figure out how to prevent that...I'm not a php type...;) And, it's doing NO checking to make sure that the arguments are not NULL. So..if anyone wants to hack at that and pass it back... My thoughts are that along with Tim's great script...this could be used as the back end to a more comprehensive control page for a node set in a network, either via a couple of manual input boxes on a web page, or through a drop-down list to select a node and then an input box to type in the command. Of course, all password protected, etc. There's lots of room to wiggle here. The include file is distributed under the GNU lesser license... simpleusb and parallel port question

Trying to convert a usbradio box to simpleusb. But thew usbradio setup uses pins on the parallel port for PTT and COS in. Tried this with simpleusb and no-go. Looked in the most recent source for simpleusb.c and I see reference to the port: #define PP_MASK 0xbffc #define PP_PORT "/dev/parport0" #define PP_IOPORT 0x378 But in the configs section of the source I see: carrierfrom = usb ;no,usb,usbinvert which does not show pp or ppinvert as choices. So...am I chasing my tail? If simpleusb cannot work with pport I'll leave it as-is. commands radio, rpt no longer there. Channeltypes shows simpleusb, not radio. Then I also remember there should be a file in /etc/asterisk (I think) that tells it what kind of channel it is, but I am having severe senior moment-itis.. Can anyone un confuse me? I have successfully installed onto both of my Dell Inspiron Netbooks model 1018, 1.66 Ghz processor, 2 GB of ram, and a 250 GB SATA II hard drive which I changed out for a 16 GB Solid State Hard Drive. Via a $12.00 external USB CD drive. I gave up on the USB stick method. No hang ups to report, installs went smooth. Ya'll need to stop wasting your time with the Pi, it's a well-documented issue with USB performance or lack thereof due to the SOC design. Asterisk over Amateur Radio Backhaul

Is this correct? How would this factor into using repurposed WLAN equipment under Part 97 as backhaul for asterisk/app_rpt? Can the system be run without the use of encryption? Thanks, Brett KQ9N
