Updating Asterisk

Hi all, Do I need to completely rebuild the system from CD created from a newly downloaded ISO to update my node to the latest build? Or, can I do it from the comfort of my desk by using the method given on the developer section of the QRVC website? I tried to update the app_rpt app, which worked fine but I wanted to use the new "CTCSS encode only when RX mute open" feature. This didnt work for me so I figured I needed to update chan_usb as well but there are some errors that get reported when I try and make it. Thanks, Matt

I would be curious to know what level you run the tx output at ? ? I put an extra pot inside my exciter,?at the audio input, so that I could?run the txmixer (or whatever it is called) at around 500 - half of full scale. ? I had a noise problem on the CTCSS input of the Hantronics, as well, when I added the separate PL signal later on. .? That is because?the Hamtronics CTCSS input?is *very* low level and high impedance. In that case, I just put a 47 ohm resistor at the exciter input.??The URI has no trouble driving into this low-Z and it killed that particular noise. ? =====? ? I get one more noise that I cannot figure out though ... at the end of a users transmission there is kind of a low-pitched "glug-glug" noise before the courtesy beep - seems like some sort of artifact similar to a previous version that would not play disconnect messages - but would still make some sort of noise... ? Ken

Steve The asterisk computer is powered by a local AC outlet and the DC supply shares the same AC circuit. The AC and DC grounds are bonded. The DC supply also floats about 650 amp hours of battery back up. Even with all the batteries, I never had any luck using a inverter or a UPS tied to the DC buss. I thought it would be nice to power the windows based echo link computer from a computer grade UPS (or inverter) that uses the main DC supply with the batteries. But it introduces to much noise into the system that seems to only shows up on the UHF machines. So I have to have battery back up for the PC's separate of the system. Has anyone ever tried a "Car Computer" case that is designed to run off of 12 volts DC? I should have some time Wednesday night to try all of the suggestions, Thanks again. Sorry guys I just realized when I was hitting reply, I was replying directly to the individual. I would guess proper etiquette would be to email the group. Or at least CC the group. Thanks for all of the suggestions, I will try adding in a resistor or a voltage divider. I will have to check to see if I have a 1:1 transformer laying around. And yes the "RADIO TUNE TXVOICE" was on the far low side. I will also double check to see if the monitor is creating the noise by turning it off. I thought the same thing (regarding local HT noise) and hooked up the audio input leads to the audio path and seen this (hopefully I can attach a picture). I also had someone off site confirm they heard the noise. I did not think about trying to figure out the frequency. All I know is that my cheap poopy monitor is NOTORIOUS for causing noise on transmit using a URI and a relatively high input impedance audio input to the transmitter. But I do not believe it is and I tried grounding everything. Let me give some history. I first setup Asterisk on a laptop and connected to a 900 MHz GE net station (again, thanks Doug for the help putting it on the air). Because the oscillator is always hot, you can here a carrier locally with an HT. Immediately I heard a high frequency whine that changed with screen changes on the computer. I tried three different computers and two other repeaters, a 440 Mastr II Station and home brew UHF Hamtronics. All of the configurations had the same noise. I even tried isolating some equipment offsite. During some trouble shooting, I noticed something that I thought was strange. I would love to see the ability to vote sites with the app_rpt software. After some side discussion with a fellow lister, I understand this would be very difficult to implement. Is there another alternative to time based GPS interface? I know it would not be "true" voting, but may be helpful in some cases. Would it be possible send time data to get the signals close and then select the receiver based on receiver signal strength? Now for my real question. motorola t1504 duplexers

Does anyone have a good source of Motorola T1504 (or even T1507) UHF duplexers (in good working and non-rusted shape). I am finally out of good working ones, and the supply of them in ebay has seemed to dry out. Thanks!!! JIM WB6NIL

Disabling connect/disconnect announcement.

Ok, I have seen some discussion concerning connect/disconnect announcements, but most of it was concerning Echolink/IRLP. Don't know if this has been discussed before, but what I would like to do, is turn off node connect/disconnect announcements. It would be great to do it "selectively" (i.e macro or system command) I want all other announcements to work (i.e. *7, *81, etc) Reason is, if I have several nodes (right now 6) connected as perm links, it takes forever to "say" they are connected or disconnected when I do a site normal, etc. Beeps are ok.... Ideas? Thanks, Neil

Screen Saver

I would like to disable the screen saver mode in CentOS/asterisk/app_rpt. I made sure the BIOS power saving is off, but the screen still blanks. I looked around in CentOS but didn't find where it might be set. Ideas? Thanks, Neil
