[App_rpt] usb radio interface

After looking at the info at http://app-rpt.qrvc.com/ it looks like there are 2 ways to go for usb radio interfacing. What is the difference between the modified usb sound fob and the dmk engineering interface? Eric AF6EP

[App_rpt] distro preference?

I'm putting app_rpt back up from scratch. Is there a prefered distro to run it on? I'm partial to debian because of it's package management and the ability to not have to install masses of unneeded additional bloat but I've also used RedHat derivitives such as OpenSuse, whitebox, centos, and fedora, along with Slackware, and linux from scratch. If I'm going to be compiling everything from source though rather than installing packages which seems to be the case with app_rpt then what's the best choice? Thanks, Eric AF6EP

I finally figured out that the PTT wire somehow had gotten moved and was just barely touching pin 14, not sure how this affected the receive tuning, but since I fixed that it worked fine. However, since I decided to re-solder the wire so that it was in a better position, I broke the pin off the chip. So as soon as I order another usb adapter or two, I'll be up and running. [App_rpt] USB interface reliability

Hello all, I am building up a repeater to put on the air in Seattle as our first All Star node. I have the single-radio analog board which connects to my existing FXS card already but I don't want to put that up on top of a building in the long run. I'm curious if the cheap USB audio adapters (such as the one that computergeeks sells for something like $8) are a good long-term, reliable solution. I'm interested to hear from others running repeaters in good repeater sites that are using the USB ports, particularly those with repeaters in commercial or high-density sites where strong RF fields from other transmitters are common. The 4-port PCI card is certainly an option but given the price difference I would really like to make an attempt at the USB interface first but would like some advice of others on the stability/reliability of it. It won't be suitable for me if it's at all problematic as visiting this repeater site is not something I can do regularly. Thanks Mark Hagler

First off, The EEPROM notices can be safely ignored. With a modified USB fob, there is no EEPROM facility. All level settings are stored in a file. The correct command is "radio tune rxnoise". There is no "radio tune" command. You should have an AC noise waveform at the tap on the voltage divider during the "radio tune rxnoise" test Preferably, you should check it with a scope and see what the level is. Levels less than 50 millivolts peak to peak at the tap could be your problem. Roger F. The reason its not repeating is probably due to not decoding the PL due to improper levels, or its not set to use the COR/COS line. Maybe the logic is backward. If its decoding dtmf so thats Good. I had to remove the voltage divider for my radio as some radios have really strong disc. outputs others are more sedate. Measure the audio voltage, if its not way too hot, then run it strait in the fob sans the divider. Also make sure your audio going into the fob isn't squelched. One repeater I interfaced into the audio was still preemphasized and was squelched. That made it fun for adjusting levels. (MSR2000). It was wired for an NHRC-2, so I changed the pinout of the 9pin to that spec, so the controllers are interchangable. I am building a dtmf decoder for the control freq so I can s 0 On a side note, I'm still fighting a ground loop between the PC and the receiver. I have 60hz hum, only on the receiver, the transmitted audio is fine. They are on the same outlet, I added a 1:1 audio balun on both the tx and rx audio lines. I ran a ground strap between the chassis of the repeater, the PC, and the main ground bus. That all helped, but still hear the hum. I remove the usb interface connector and use the backup controller (NHRC2), no hum. Weirdness.... [App_rpt] Duplicate Lines on CLI

If you get duplicate lines of CLI debug output, edit /etc/asterisk/logger.conf and not the "console =>" line. There may be 2 of them. Delete the shorter (less verbose) one. Restart Asterisk and you should just get one CLI debug line per event.
